Job Title: Infrastructure Lead

Job Purpose

This role is responsible for the technical design, development, implementation, maintenance/management, documentation and governance of the Windows Server estate and associated infrastructure across all sites. You will be responsible for making sure the service meets the current and emerging needs of the business. This role will achieve this in consultation with key stakeholders in the organisation and with the rest of the architect team.

This role has accountability and responsibility for the Windows server estate (VMware hosts and guests, Azure) and for the hardware that the windows server estate runs on (HP Blade, HP Synergy systems). This role also has responsibility for Azure cloud services with the inclusion of M365.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks
  • Assess business and technical needs - Work with the IT Operations Manager and Infrastructure Architect as a technical design authority to design, review and approve all changes, which have an impact on the Wintel environment & the development of appropriate standards.
  • Conduct research and provide advice regarding selection and implementation of IT products.
  • Lead design of architecture for, and integration of, new and upgraded Wintel solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership to the IT team.
  • Accountable for the design, maintenance, and governance of the Windows Server Estate (VMware vSphere hosts and guests, Azure) as well as the hardware it runs on, HP Blade and HP Synergy systems.
  • Attend cross functional meetings to help drive appropriate cost-effective design solutions to support business goals and strategy.
  • Provide support and assistance to 3rd line functions when needed.
  • Understand advances and changes in related technology & work directly with equipment manufactures to assess new technologies.
  • Develop solutions with a focus on reducing operating costs and/or increasing customer experiences.
  • Ensure the security of the Wintel infrastructure and maintain compliance with all applicable security standards.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Computer Science degree or related discipline or extensive experience
  • MCSA Windows Server
  • VMware Certified Advanced Professional
  • Microsoft Azure
  • Experience of architecting for Enterprise solutions
  • Experienced senior technical resource, highly motivated and capable of understanding and resolving complex technical problems.
  • Strong understanding of both Azure and M365 cloud services as well as on-premise Windows Server infrastructure, coupled with a general understanding of traditional hosted technologies and approach.
  • A fundamental understanding of enterprise class storage systems.
  • A fundamental understanding of networking including LAN and WAN technologies.
  • Expert knowledge of Windows Server Operating Systems (including OS fine tuning, troubleshooting & installation & managing infrastructure services such as DHCP, DNS, DFS.
  • Strong knowledge of VMware platform
  • Understanding of service management tools
  • A detailed understanding of Active Directory and surrounding technologies including DNS, Group Policy, ADFS, PKI and RMS
  • Previous experience in configuring, installing, and troubleshooting HP servers including the DL and BL range.
  • Capability to author and update infrastructure, support, and procedural documentation.
