Job Description

Infrastructure Cisco (UCS)/Vmware Lead Engineer

1. A high level of technical expertise in enterprise compute, hosting and virtualisation, specifically in at least 3 of the the following areas: Cisco UCS, VMware vSphere, VMware Horizon VDI, Software-Defined Networking, Cisco Hyperflex and associated management and monitoring tools
2. Administer UCS & VMware environment via consoles and investigate any alerts via UCS tools, reporting in vROps, SCOM, Intersight and vCenter. Manage the environments for all alerts, hardware or port failures. Consult with vendors and Operations team for parts replacements and manage the virtual estate, configuration changes and upgrades, under change control.
3. VDI support - analyse the performance of both server and VMs using available tools
4. Experience of installing, configuring and administering vCenter Platforms and UCS Configuration using best practices
5. Proven history of working and configuration of production environments in both Cisco & VMware technologies
6. Deliver high-quality operational support using incident, request and problem management processes and ITSM tools
7. Full member of on-call out of hours support rota ensuring 24/7/365 operation of the enterprise compute and hosting services
8. Resolve and manage technical issues, risks, audit and compliance obligations, including implementing disaster recovery and business continuity procedures and ensuring appropriate mitigation plans are in place and delivered
9. Deliver specific project tasks leading to key outcomes for critical Bank of England portfolio projects
10. A broad and deep understanding of best practice in applying appropriate processes, technologies and resources to deliver a high quality level of service
11. Detail oriented, process driven, highly innovative mind-set, with deeply engrained sense of ownership for the services delivered
12. Proven track record of working well under pressure and thinking clearly in challenging situations in a logical manner
13. Proven track record of being flexible in approach and inventive in order to deliver the right outcomes
14. Strong customer focus and an excellent ability to manage customer relationships and understand requirements and expectations
15. Adept at stakeholder communications, from senior level to domain-wide engagement events

Minimum Criteria

Good knowledge of at least 3 of these areas:

o Cisco UCS
o VMware vSphere
o VMware VDI
o Cisco Hyperflex
o Management and Monitoring tools i.e. Intersight, CWOM, vROps, UCS Central/Manager
o Software-Defined Networking (VMware NSX or Cisco ACI)

1. Deep knowledge of Cisco UCS and VMware across development and
2. production
3. Experience of administering Cisco UCS environments using UCS
4. Central/Manager, support of hardware/firmware issues and support of
5. UCS templates with B series blades and C series servers
6. Management and support of VMware vSphere using vROps/VMware Tools
7. Experience with Cisco HX Hyperflex Infrastructure
8. Valid certification in VMware (VTCA /VCP), or with equivalent industry experience
9. Support of enterprise VDI via Horizon platform working closely with UCS/VMware & Windows teams
10. Knowledge of ITIL and other industry wide initiatives that promote quality and process improvement (ITIL v3/4 Foundation certified preferred)

Desirable Criteria

1. Experience with Cisco CWOM/Turbonomic
2. Exposure to public cloud platforms, i.e. Microsoft Azure
3. Windows server administration & support skills including Active Directory and Group Policy
4. Experience with VMware NSX, or alternative software-defined networking platforms
5. Experience with VxRail
6. Support of VMware Orchestrator
7. Experience with Cisco UCS Director.
8. Experience in one or more programming and scripting languages, e.g.
9. PowerShell, Python, Java, C#.Net , Go, Ruby, Bash
10. Experience using automation tools such as Ansible; scripting experience to automate manual tasks
11. Familiar with Agile/SCRUM processes
12. Experience in managing third party engineers
13. Experience of security attestations and controls
14. Experience in resource and workload management
15. Proven skills in aligning IT with organisational drivers
16. Industry awareness to identify improvement opportunities and implement
17. them across the services and processes incorporated within the domain
18. Experience of digital transformation initiatives across a large, diverse organization
19. General knowledge of all areas of IT application and infrastructure
20. Previous experience in the Finance sector is preferred
