We are currently looking to recruit Industrial Electricians to work within our Maintenance Engineering Services department across in the Halifax, Harrogate, Scarborough and Hull areas.

This is a regional role, where you live will determine the area you will cover. This is a permanent opportunity, working 37 hours per week working rotational work patterns to cover 24/7 working, which will include late, early and weekend work patterns.

You will need to participate in an out of normal working hours emergency call out rota and be flexible outside of core hours.

As an Electrician, you will undertake maintenance of Yorkshire Waters Electrical and Mechanical assets across water and wastewater treatment and pumping installations. Mobile working as part of a Maintenance Team to deliver Planned & Reactive maintenance. Responding to emergency calls both in and out of hours (on call-out rota). Driving to deliver improved asset reliability through effective decision making.

Engineering Maintenance Services have multi-disciplined MEICA teams working across the whole Yorkshire region. Each team has its own geographical area of responsibility but on occasions, members will be expected to work on any Yorkshire water asset. This could be during periods of escalation due to adverse weather or similar.

What will the role involve?

As an Electrician you will be required to work unsupervised in remote geographic locations and be accountable for the completion of planned and reactive electrical tasks within agreed timescales, quality and cost parameters.

Candidates will be expected to manage and prioritise your own workload effectively and to build and maintain relationships with operational customers, colleagues, suppliers and contract partners. Adhering to the Health and Safety policy and standards actively identifying hazards, providing mitigation, and reporting onto the company hazard database to ensure the cause of the hazard is removed.

You will be required to supervise approved Contract Partners, providing risk assessments and method statements where permit to work is required for a given task. You will also be required to use a Toughbook to capture all work activity and job status in line with workflow processes. Assist in the development and training of apprentices as well as less experienced members of the team, identifying ways to improve the value and service delivered by the Maintenance Function. Installation & commission new plant and equipment to relevant standards is essential. Diagnosing and repairing faults on systems and plant.

You will pro-actively identify and report follow on work or areas for enhancement. You will conduct your own risk assessments and create appropriate method statements when required to safely carry out maintenance activities. The successful candidate will have the ability to specify parts and equipment required for procurement as part of day to day role.

What skills are we looking for?

It is an essential requirement that you hold a recognised Electrical Craft/Technician Apprenticeship and either a City & Guilds/ ONC/ BTEC/ NVQ/ HNC/ HND or equivalent in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Eng Tech.

It is desirable that you hold the following qualifications:

  • IET 17th Edition Wiring Regulations City and Guilds 2382
  • CompEx 1 – 4
  • HNC Electrical/Electronic Engineering

It is a mandatory requirement that you can demonstrate experience and knowledge in:

  • Safe isolation to the current IET regulations
  • As a time served industrial electrician
  • Fault finding on control circuits up to the PLC
  • IT literate e.g. MS office
  • Ability to produce maintenance reports
  • Experience of fault finding with industrial motors and starters
  • Experience fault finding with industrial 3 phase systems
  • Experience working with rotating equipment
  • Experience of fault finding on LV control circuits

It is desirable that you can demonstrate experience and knowledge in:

  • Experience of pneumatics
  • Work within ATEX standards
  • Experience of maintaining UPS systems
  • Fault finding experience of soft start or variable speed drives
  • Fault finding experience of actuated valves

Ideally, you will have previous experience gained as an industrial electrician within the water or wastewater sectors or within the broader utilities, process or manufacturing industry sectors. You will have a proven track record of maintaining and repairing 3 phase rotating machinery and associated control systems. You will have a systematic approach to fault finding using industry best practice, where required the ability to share and mentor others.

You will be required to visit sites across the Yorkshire Region therefore a full valid driving licence (with no more than six points) is essential.

As part of this role and once fully trained you will be required to participate in an emergency call out rota.

This role has a requirement to carry out work in confined spaces, so completion of a medical and the relevant training course is essential if successful in securing a role.
