Barnardo’s is committed to providing ‘Better Outcomes for More Children’. Our children’s services volunteers help the charity to deliver essential services in local communities, providing support to over 300,000 children, young people and their families. This role provides a great opportunity to join our fantastic children’s services and help make a real difference. An **Independent Visitor (IV)** is a volunteer befriender to a looked-after child or young person, who builds an enduring and trusting relationship over time, through regular monthly visits and having fun with the young person. As you will appreciate, befriending a child or young person is a very responsible role, requiring volunteers to be a reliable and trustworthy adult role model. The commitment we seek from you is a once a month visit, for 2 to 4 hours. We ask you to consider the IV role as being at least a 2 year commitment to the service, although the match could last much longer. We are looking for enthusiastic, fun-loving people, who have a passion for supporting children and young people. If that sounds like you, we would love to receive your application to our team! You will need to be a car driver and we would particularly welcome applicants who match the circumstances of many of our young people and will improve the diversity of our volunteers: male, available at weekends, living in Coventry, Warwickshire or the wider West Midlands, and/or with an understanding of how young peoples’ individual needs will vary. It is a very rewarding and enjoyable role and we look forward to hearing from you.
Barnardo’s protects, supports and nurtures the UK’s most vulnerable children. Barnardo’s helps bring out the best in children – no matter who they are or what they have been through. Our volunteers help make this happen.
