In-Field Excellence & Learning Manager (Team of 5)

Objective

The In-Field Excellence & Learning Partner will be responsible for leading and managing the In-Field Excellence (IFEx) and Learning teams. They will be responsible for developing and delivering a vision for excellence and high quality strategic and operational plans for these functions, in order to raise the standards of In-Field and Brand Team performance and ensure differentiating ‘future fit’ capabilities are developed and implemented. This will be done with strong cross-functional engagement with the cross-functional Affiliate Leadership Team (ALT), Business Unit Managers and leaders from the sales, marketing, market access and medical functions. Plans will be developed with reference to UK affiliate priorities, brand priorities, other Customer Excellence functional objectives and global strategies. Global stakeholder engagement will be key.

The job holder will also be responsible for ensuring that Learning & Development support for Launch, Brand and In-Field Teams (IFTs) uses both leading edge design and technologies and is delivered with best-in-class execution, in order to develop knowledge and competency. The job holder will ensure the efforts of the Learning & Development Team are focussed on the priority areas identified with the brand and Customer Excellence (CEx) plans and are aligned with the strategic vision for the organisation.

Highlighted Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Planning
  • Work as a proactive, strategic partner to the ALT and Leaders in the affiliate to drive optimisation of IFEx across the business. Create engagement and advocacy for the IFEx & Learning strategies across key stakeholders.
  • With cross-functional stakeholder engagement, create and implement inspiring and motivational ‘best in class’ strategy, vision, objectives and operational plans to optimise IFEx and deliver a ‘Future Fit’ competitive advantage. These must be aligned with global, area and affiliate IFEx & Learning Future Fit priorities and ambitions.
  • Ensure development and execution of IFEx strategies is supported by robust data and high quality analytics.


Operational Execution
  • Ensure high level execution of the IFEx and Learning plans through the relevant team. Work with cross-functional leaders & stakeholders to ensure engagement, alignment of objectives and change management to ensure consistent and integrated ways of working.
  • Develop and implement systems, processes and tools that will support consistent high quality execution of IFEx methodology across the organisation.
  • Ensure that the required knowledge / competencies of IFT members and Brand Teams members are developed in line with the defined objectives. Ensure continuous delivery of a high quality Initial Learning Programme for all appropriate roles.
  • Develop and tailor IFEx processes and systems, and learning interventions to the unique context of each Business Unit to meet defined objectives. Evaluate and communicate progress towards these objectives to relevant stakeholders.
  • Provide strategic input and insights into the development of key tools that support IFTs e.g. Veeva, Dashboards, CLM etc…


Leadership & Management
  • Deliver high profile, strategic leadership and advocacy for IFEx and Learning across the ALT and senior management community. Show-case the value of these functions within the UK Affiliate and to wider AbbVie organisation.
  • Line manage and lead the In-Field Excellence Partners, Learning & Development team and IFEx Analyst.
  • Represent the UK affiliate perspective and contribute to the delivery of Area / Global IFEx and Learning work streams, ensuring UK requirements are met or exceeded.
  • Manage assigned expenditure budget in line with organisational expectations as defined in relevant financial plans.


Qualifications

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

Required Knowledge
  • Strong understanding of the UK NHS and pharmaceutical industry, business structures and the current and anticipated future operations of key functions across the affiliate, particularly Sales, Marketing, Medical and Market Access.
  • Strong understanding of the brand planning process including the development and execution of brand strategy and tactics.
  • Deep understanding and experience of developing integrated, cross-functional account plans, including translation of the national brand plan into high quality aligned local tactical plans to deliver optimal performance.
  • Extensive experience of leading and optimizing IFEx, across the Sales, Medical and Market Access functions.
  • Strong understanding of the ABPI Code of Practice.


Required Skills / Experience
  • Wide experience of working in the pharmaceutical industry, across multiple functions (including commercial) and in leadership roles.
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills, with the ability to influence, challenge thinking and gain credibility with internal stakeholders, gained through breadth of understanding of all aspects of the affiliate’s business operation.
  • Ability to build strong cross-functional, collaborative working relationships and the ability to influence upwards and where no direct line responsibility exists. Strong situational leadership with the ability to flex leadership style as needed.
  • Ability to create and communicate a compelling strategic vision and objectives, and influence and motivate others (without authority) to work towards this. Ability to set and monitor appropriate KPIs and pro-actively manage and adjust the approach taken to achieve them.
  • Experience of working closely with or leading a Learning & Development team. Strong understanding of best practice Learning methods and their implementation. Experience of learning needs assessment, learner journey and learning intervention planning and supporting embedding of learning (using 70:20:10 principles).
  • Proven line management experience, including recruitment, development and performance management of direct reports.
