THE FOLLOWING VACANCY HAS BEEN ADVERTISED EXTERNALLY

Identification Officer
Yorkshire and Humber Regional Scientific Support Services
Identification Bureau
Calder Park, Wakefield
4 Permanent Full-Time Posts

West Yorkshire Police as the lead Force for the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Scientific Support Services are looking to recruit four Identification Officers to join the Regional Identification Bureau based at Calder Park in Wakefield. The successful candidates will cover the Yorkshire and the Humber Region.

This is an excellent opportunity to pursue a career in Forensic Identification, and to be a part of a well-established Regional alliance, that is a key component in the response to serious criminality in the Yorkshire and Humber Region.

The overall purpose of the Identification Officer role is to forensically compare and identify fingerprints and footwear marks from crime scenes.

To commence in post, you must therefore be able to demonstrate your capability with regard to forensic identification of marks, and your ability to conduct fine detail visual quality assurance checks, however, relevant experience is not required.

This excellent opportunity is coupled with a comprehensive internal training scheme, ordinarily over a minimum 3 year period, which includes Theory and Practical Training to develop forensic comparison and identification skills. The training scheme also comprises an initial Foundation Course, Career Development Portfolio and Intermediate development ensuring that the successful candidate gains the required knowledge and skills to excel in the role.

As you progress through this training you will begin to conduct tasks independently in a range of associated technical duties. This includes: taking fingerprint and biometrics from Police Officers, Staff, Visa and DBS applicants; using fingerprint and footwear computerised searching systems; and, fully evaluating and establishing the evidence to produce accurate conclusions and maximize unit effectiveness, whilst retaining the reliability, integrity and reputation of the disciplines.

After appropriate training, you will need to demonstrate competence in all standard operating procedures, in compliance with the relevant quality management systems, ensuring organisational conformance with the standards required by the UK Forensic Science Regulator.

These posts will be working Monday to Friday on a flexi-time basis, between the hours of 7am and 7pm.

Individuals will normally be appointed to the bottom scale point, of the appropriate grade, within the Career Progression Scheme based on the role entry requirements. However, appointment can be made to a higher scale point if qualifications, skills and experience are commensurate with a higher point, this is subject to appropriate approval.

Those candidates who possess the requisite experience and knowledge of the intermediate Level 5 Role Profile (£23,817 - £26,016 salary) or the Advanced Level Scale 6 Role Profile (£26,865 - £28,725 salary) may be considered eligible to start further along the progression scheme. Once in role progression is competency based and the individual must be able to evidence competence in role through internal assessment.

Applicants will be required to take an aptitude test to assess comparison skills prior to selection for interview. Due to the nature of the role, the successful candidates must also provide Biometric samples (fingerprints and DNA) for inclusion on the respective Police Elimination Databases for routine speculative searching purposes.

The application process will close at 23:55 hours on the 22 July 2021.
