Golder has a new opportunity for a Hydrogeologistto join our Mine Water teamon a full-time permanent basis based in any of our UK/Ireland offices (Bourne End, London, Nottingham, Doncaster, Leeds, Edinburgh or Naas).

The Hydrogeologist will provide groundwater services across a variety of sectors including mining, oil & gas, urban development & infrastructure, manufacturing and power. This role will have a specific focus of supporting our business strategy of developing our Mining business in Russia, Kazakhstan and the far east.

Key Duties And Responsibilities Include
  • Development of groundwater conceptual models for mining, waste, and contaminated sites, the preparation of risk assessments, hydrogeological input to mining studies (scoping to Feasibility) and ESIAs for mining, petroleum, and other development projects;
  • Performing field work on integrated hydrogeological and geotechnical programmes to include monitoring, supervision of borehole drilling and monitoring well installation, aquifer testing (including the use of borehole packers), installation of grouted vibrating wire piezometers, geotechnical logging and testing, core logging and other field tasks as required;
  • Direction of work related to the development of mine water management solutions and design;
  • Project-based travel and site work, working away from home both in the UK and overseas. The frequency and duration of this will depend on business and client need;
  • Production and review of technical factual and interpretative reports;
  • Providing technical direction to junior and intermediate staff and supervising quality and quantity of work;
  • Managing and participating actively in the development of budgets and plans for projects and proposals;
  • Assisting with writing and preparing proposals;
  • Supporting senior staff with business development activities;
  • Meeting with clients (both new and existing) and assisting with maintaining and developing strong relationships with those clients and managing their expectations;
  • Be recognised as a mentor and role model for junior and intermediate members of staff, offering motivation and encouragement to achieve results;
  • Beginning to make more regular contribution to group or team goals, management and planning;
  • Contributing to a positive and collaborative working environment across disciplines and sectors, encouraging the contribution of ideas to continuously improve projects and processes;
  • Understand and promote Golder business systems and utilise these systems to ensure quality;

Required
  • MSc Hydrogeology (or similar field) combined with a first degree in Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology or related subject;
  • Previous experience of working as a Hydrogeologist within any environment;
  • Operational mining experience in Kazakhstan and/or Russia;
  • Previous site experience, with the confidence to liaise with clients and contractors;
  • Developed commercial acumen with an interest in business development;
  • Ability to network and make new contacts, as well as develop existing ones;
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, in English;
  • Proficiency in Kazakh and Russian;
  • Excellent report writing skills;
  • Positive approach to working as a mentor and in a team environment;
  • Able to make decisions and show initiative but with the confidence to ask for assistance when needed;
  • Enthusiasm for the discipline, demonstrating a desire and commitment to Continued Professional Development;
  • Willingness and ability to travel and work away from home.
Desired
  • Additional language skills;
  • Additional post graduate experience;
  • Previous experience of working within a consultancy environment and/or on mining projects;
  • Previous experience of hydrogeology analysis software packages;
  • Previous experience of dewatering systems;
  • Previous design or analysis experience;
  • Membership of a relevant professional organisation and active involvement in continuous professional development activities; and
  • Experience of international travel.
