We are seeking an experienced HR Business Partner to join a central Oxford University College part-time on a temporary basis. You will work with another Central University Department, providing high-level operational advice and assistance across a wide range of HR cases such as organisational change, recruitment, grading and remuneration with a significant emphasis on managing disciplinary and grievance issues.

The position involves working 15 hours per week across two central locations. Pay rate is £23.22 p/h with holiday pay also provided. We are seeking candidates that can start immediately.


Responsibilities:
  • To work closely with the HR Team Leader on the management of complex or high-risk cases, up to and including employment tribunals.
  • To deliver high-level, non-routine operational advice and assistance to employing departments and institutions of the University across the full range of HR issues, including discipline, grievance, organisational change, TUPE, grading, and local interactions with staff representatives, as well as advice on the interpretation of university personnel policy on matters such as recruitment, equal opportunities, retirement, and voluntary severance
  • To work with divisions and departments as a business partner; to understand their business objectives and to provide HR support and advice as necessary to achieve those objectives, and manage any associated risks
  • To assist in the development and review of operational personnel policies and procedures as required.
  • To contribute to regular training and briefing sessions for HR managers and departmental administrators tailored to each division’s requirements.
Person specification

Essential

  • Wide experience of advising line managers on the full range of staffing issues in a complex organisation (ideally within a unionised environment)
  • Excellent sound judgement in HR matters with a thorough and up-to-date knowledge of employment law and good practice
  • Professional and proactive approach to enabling managers to achieve their objectives, through coaching, and the provision of HR advice that is prompt, persuasive, effective, and evaluates risk
  • Able to develop effective and constructive working relationships at all levels of the University and to influence events, particularly at the senior management level
  • First-hand experience of providing HR support for organisational change
  • Analytical thinking, innovation, and problem-solving ability equivalent to those derived from holding a good honours degree, membership of the CIPD, and wide professional experience
  • A keen awareness of the broader implications of specific HR matters in the context of a wide range of organisational environments
  • The ability to communicate concisely, effectively and persuasively in writing as well as orally
  • Excellent organisational skills, the ability to prioritise, and progress a high volume of complex issues to successful resolution
  • Commitment to continuous improvement, both on a personal level and as part of a service.
  • Good attention to detail

Desirable

  • Frontline experience as an HR manager in a business unit
  • Experience of delivering HR training and briefing for managers
  • Use of HR information systems, and the ability to understand workforce data
