Case Administrator

This is an exciting opportunity to undertake a one year placement with HM Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) working in a Probation Local Delivery Unit (LDU), as a Case Administrator, in Sheffield.

HMPPS is an executive agency of the Ministry of Justice, which comprises the management of the Prison, the Probation Service and more recently the duty for the Youth Custody Estate. We carry out sentences given by the Courts, in custody and the community, and rehabilitate people in our care through education, employment and focus our efforts on addressing the offending behaviour.

The successful candidate will provide administrative aid within the Probation LDU, ensuring that staff and service users are supported through efficient processes, maintaining administration systems within specified timescales in order to promote the achievement of team and divisional objectives.

The placement will give the post holder an insight into various careers within the Probation Service, for example Probation Officer, and help them with preparation and assistance in applying for a future career in HMPPS. Candidates applying for this placement should be interested in pursuing a future career with HMPPS and Probation.

Main Duties

Although this role will give the successful applicant ample opportunity to complete project work, the post holder will be required to carry out general administrative duties as a Case Administrator within a PDU.

As a Case Administrator, you will ensure:

  • All processes run efficiently
  • Systems are maintained correctly
  • Probation information is collated and prepared for case files

You will use your strong communication skills to handle enquiries from colleagues, agencies and people on probation in a busy environment.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must be completing a sandwich course/internship degree qualification ideally studying any one of the following: Criminology, Community Justice Criminal Justice, Police Studies or any other suitably equivalent degree. In addition, applicants will be required to provide proof of their academic achievements and current place of study.
