Amey are seeking a Highways Schemes Supervisor to work on the Area 10 network

What is the purpose of this role?

  • Act as a Supervisor for all small schemes works on the Area 10 Network.
  • Support maintenance operations with access to schemes operations sites.

Size and scope: Responsible for supervision and delivery of small schemes up to a value of £1M. Manage sub-contractor operations in the delivery of schemes works.

What will this role involve?

Operations:

  • Ensure that all site inductions are carried out and recorded.
  • Carry out Start of Shift Briefings to all contractors and Amey operatives.
  • Manage Health and Safety on site.
  • Ensure that all Traffic Management is available.
  • Liaise with sub-contractors.
  • Manage site works.
  • Complete all relevant paperwork.
  • Make phone calls to Highways England ROC when closures are put on and taken off.
  • Make on site decisions on safety, weather etc.
  • Report back to the scheme manager on a daily basis with scheme updates.
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety
  • Ensure teams have a consistent understanding of systems and processes.
  • Ensure that all team members operate according to One Amey principles
  • Supports and contributes to continuous improvement.
  • Be able to communicate with the client’s officers and the general public when required.
  • Monitor contractors method statements and risk assessment
  • Carry out inspection, testing and sampling to verify compliance within the Contract
  • Collect and collate all necessary data for the measurement of the KPI’s
  • Liaise with the Area Managers and Roadspace Manager regarding co-ordination and integration of works
  • Liaise with Local Authorities, Statutory Authorities, Emergency Services and other third parties where necessary
  • Assist with the management and administration of the construction works in accordance with the contract
  • Provide assistance with monitoring progress of site works
  • Assist with the Production of the quality plan and adhere to the procedures
  • Identify and prepare new procedures as necessary
  • Preparation and maintenance of Construction Phase Plans
  • Preparation of monthly financial and progress reports
  • Assist with the recording and valuation of the work throughout duration of the project
  • Assist with the planning and programming of the works in close liaison with all contractors on site
  • Assist with the implementation, development and maintenance of the Site Waste Management Plan and Environmental Management Plan
  • Assist with the production of Health and Safety process and procedure

Customer / Market:

  • Understand, anticipate and deliver client requirements.
  • Support and implement a culture of customer centricity.
  • Meet with Traffic Officers and HE Schemes Managers when required to develop relationship and delivery methodology and programmes.

People / Organisation:

  • Manage supplier relationships outsourced/sub-contractors.
  • Support and reflect the ‘One Amey’ culture within the business.
  • Ensures a culture of compliance
  • Ensure a culture of Safety throughout area 10.

Role specific responsibilities:

  • Provide onsite support to scheme operations.
  • Provide Cover for Schemes Manager during absence.
  • Provide oversight and support to all operations within Area (Including CWF & other contractors).
  • Ensure delivery of contract operational KPI’s

What are we looking for?

Qualifications:

  • Full driver’s license
  • Highways England Passport desirable.

  • CSCS and SSSTS

Experience:

  • Extensive experience of working within the highways sector (minimum 5 years)
  • General knowledge of network operations and scheme delivery on high speed roads.
  • Experience of surfacing and specialist materials delivery.
  • Experience with asset management.
  • Experience of working within an agreed budget
  • Understanding of health and safety guidelines
  • Experience in the delivery of the Principal Contractor’s obligations under the CDM Regulations 2015 and role of the Supervisor under the NEC.
  • Experienced in the successful delivery of highways maintenance to tight time and budget constraints.
  • Experience of managing the concurrent delivery of a number of operations including highways maintenance, structures, roads, traffic management, street lighting and technology scheme experience.

Role specific requirements:

  • CSCS (Supervisor) Card. Experience of working for a contractor at supervisor level or above.
  • High speed road (motorway and all-purpose trunk road) experience.
  • First Aid Certificate. Temporary Works Co-ordinator Certificate.
  • Appointed Person (Lifting Operations) Card.
  • Fire Safety Co-ordinator/Marshal Certificate.
  • At least 5 years Highways Maintenance experience.
  • Managing contractors experience
  • Chapter 8 Traffic management awareness.
  • CDM Awareness
  • Surfacing experience and knowledge.
