Our highways team currently has a vacancy for an Engineer with highways design experience, to work on local, national and international schemes, based out of our Cardiff office.

The successful candidate will join AECOM’s established highways business which continues to expand following several major project wins.

The highways business in Cardiff has significant skills, experience and established culture in the delivery of all types of highway schemes; from major highways projects for Clients including Welsh Government, Highways England and Local authorities; to trunk road maintenance schemes through the South Wales Trunk Road Agent (SWTRA). Our teams have an established reputation for quality and delivery. We are looking to enhance and enlarge these teams with people who have a sound technical background and share our enthusiasm and determination.

Our modern offices are located in central Cardiff a short walk from Cardiff Central station.

Job responsibilities:
+ Work under the direction of Principal/ Senior Engineers to ensure that the job/ project accountabilities listed below can be carried out to the expected standards

+ Assist in the provision of technical inputs, across a range of specialisms in the field of highway engineering

+ Undertake a variety of tasks providing as an individual or through team effort, a range of design and written deliverables

+ Show technical competence and through experience, gather and take on board the skills of others in computer-based applications and tasks including the use of software such as Open Roads Civils 3D, Project Wise, WinDES, and the Microsoft Office Suite of programmes including MSProject

+ Undertake project activities in line with Company Policy, including technical and commercial aspects, as appropriate to the grade

+ Take an assistant role on projects within a particular skill area – e.g. drainage, pavements, geometric layouts etc.

+ Plan, lead and undertake site visits, as required

+ Plan and attend meetings – internal and external, as required

+ Liaise with sub-consultants and external parties, as required

+ Act as a mentor to others

+ Participate as a team member on a number of levels, including; office disciplines and projects

+ Be proactive and contribute to a safer work environment

Minimum Requirements

+ Experience and proficiency in two or more of the key areas;

  • project management or asset management
  • alignment design,
  • drainage design,
  • pavement design and refurbishment,
  • signs and road markings,
  • safety barrier,
  • asset inspection,
+ Management of design and delivery of highway maintenance schemes

+ Knowledge of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges

+ Experience of working in a multidisciplinary environment, operating across a matrix of projects.

Preferred Qualifications

+ Bachelors of Degree in Civil Engineering or related subject.
