This is a varied, generalist H&S Manager role covering 3 main sites (Milton Keynes, Dartford and Ireland), 2 smaller sites and a large field-based employee population. With c600 employees in total, it covers H&S and environmental management in a manufacturing and engineering environment. This role is supported by x2 highly effective H&S Advisors. Hybrid working is encouraged for this role once initial induction period is complete.Â

The Role
  • Create, implement, and develop the H&S and environmental plan and day-to-day activity, by working in partnership across the business ensuring continuous improvement with clear accountabilities.
  • Advise on H&S legislation and practical implications. Ensuring that compliance issues are adhered to, for example RIDDOR and accident reporting.
  • High ‘on-the-floor’ presence to ensure H&S standards are being met by stakeholders. Quarterly H&S audits and escalation of non-compliances.Â
  • Reporting and investigation of claims, near misses, accidents/incidents both site based and customer related. Review associated controls and share key learnings with relevant line management.
  • Hazard identification and engaging with Managers to minimise risk and ensure controls are embedded. Ensure systems for auditing and reviewing H&S performance are in place and are being adhered to.
  • Ensure the completion of necessary statutory assessments (noise, LOLER, DSEAR, fire, COSHH etc.) using internal or liaising with statutory authorities, customers, Insurers, and other stakeholders as required.
  • Manage the ISO management systems (14001 & 45001)
  • Manage the annual renewal process for our on-line customer H&S accreditations (Safe Contractor, Altius and Avetta) and take a key role in national standards and customer audits (BRC, SEDEX).
  • Take a key role in championing environmental and sustainability initiatives, responsible for environment reporting. E.g. Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting, ESOS etc.
  • Head up the Health & Safety committees and organisation of committee meetings/actions.11. Manage, coach and mentor a team of x2 H&S advisors (1 based at Dartford, 1 based at Milton Keynes).
The Person

• Experienced H&S Manager (at least 3 years) with a strong food manufacturing/engineering background

• Fully conversant with all current health & safety legislation and codes of practice

• Experience with IS0 14001 & ISO 45001 is an advantage

• NEBOSH qualified, or equivalent level of ‘on-the-job’ experience

• Engaging and collaborative approach to supporting site managers and teams. Ability to work with, influence and engage a range of stakeholders or other interested parties

• Confident user of Microsoft Officer applications, and other digital databases/business systems

• Hold a full UK driving licence as travel to company sites is required. Travel to Milton Keynes and Dartford will be a weekly feature of this role, with occasional travel to Ireland, Huddersfield and Hemel Hempstead.

Salary: Up to £50K dependant on experience + Company Car or Car Allowance (£9,072 per annum) + 25 days holiday + Pension + other Company benefits
