THE ROLE
As an engaging and effective manager of operational IT services, the Head of Technology – Operations will drive and deliver improvements in IT operations strategy; getting IT to support and enable wider business transformation and innovation. With a focus on delivery, the role will lead, shape and deliver a substantive transformation and reliability of IT within the Trust.

This is a key leadership role, responsible ensuring that the Woodland Trust’s staff and system users have access to reliable, fit-for-purpose IT and communications systems that support them in effectively and efficiently delivering the overall strategic and operational objectives of the organisation. The Head of Technology - Operations will have responsibility for the operational management and support of IT within Woodland Trust, which will include working alongside and managing external suppliers as required to ensure that systems remain reliable and fit-for-purpose. The role will also be responsible for leading initiatives to help enhance the overall effectiveness of the organisation through its use of technology by ensuring that systems are applied so as to improve business processes/workflow and the quality of management information available to users.

THE CANDIDATE
This is a demanding role which will balance managerial functions such as managing suppliers, budgets and employees, with direct input to IT operations including overseeing the implementation of complex IT projects alongside ensuring effective ‘business as usual’ IT services, so you’ll need to have experience managing an IT function and an IT portfolio of significant complexity with diverse user requirements. You’ll be familiar with overseeing the effective provision of a broad range of IT systems, including Integrated IT systems and communications networks and with on-premise and cloud-based IT services, with a strategic understanding of the issues involved in migrating from on-premise to public cloud environments.
With a strong background of project and programme management and recognised methodologies, you’ll be able to manage complex IT projects in a way that anticipates problems and conflicting demands and identifies solutions. Successful at developing effective relationships, you’ll be a strong communicator with the ability to influence at a senior level, motivate & inspire and work collaboratively to form effective relationships across departments.
