Butler Rose is delighted to be partnered with a well-known Torbay manufacturer, a business they have supported many times in the past who have a current requirement for a talented manufacturing operations professional to join their team and provide vital support to Senior Management. As the Head of Operations, you will take responsibility for managing end-to-end operations on site and collaborate with departmental managers across the Operations team to plan and execute strategic business projects. You will be instrumental in achieving both short- and long-term goals, and will work closely with the People Business Partner to ensure the company culture is upheld and HR policies are followed. Duties include (but are not limited to):

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with teams to achieve a common goal and encourage transparent communication.
  • Manage the budget for operations, coordinating with finance to distribute funds.
  • Monitor and aid in achieving KPIs across departments with a focus on optimisation, not just speed.
  • Use data and analysis to make decisions, prioritising customer satisfaction.
  • Implement programs to reduce costs and waste.
  • Encourage positive attitudes that align with Core Values.
  • Take responsibility for the manufacturing operation and be accountable for its performance.
  • Develop strong relationships with suppliers for a smooth supply chain.
  • Deliver exceptional service to our customers.
  • Create a structure that supports growth and succession.
  • Attend and report on daily production meetings and address any issues that could affect customer satisfaction or quality.
  • Manage a team of leaders effectively to optimise output and ensure quality standards are met.
  • Identify training needs within the department, conduct appraisals, and hold return-to-work interviews.
  • Work with HR to implement processes for employee development and performance improvement.
  • Chair employee relations-related hearings when needed.
  • Enforce company Health & Safety policies.
  • Collaborate with support functions to ensure success across production.
  • Lead engagement events and uphold our company culture through personal example.

To be chosen for the role:

  • Previous experience in Operational Management
  • Understanding and exposure to principles and tools of lean manufacturing
  • Strong leadership skills that support adherence to standard operating procedures and other company policies and processes
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Commercial awareness in understanding customer needs and the financial impact of personal decisions and actions
  • Ability to promote the company culture through personal adherence to best practices
  • Ability to think strategically and make decisions aligned with shared company goals and objectives
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel
