Our client, a privately owned, growing manufacturer and distributor are looking for a Head of Operations to join their Senior Leadership team. The company prides itself on its ability to adapt quickly and respond to market opportunities and distributes its products to diverse B2B and B2C markets both in the UK and overseas.

A growth strategy is in place with an objective to double revenues and profitability in the next three years and an ambition to further increase turnover organically and with the addition of shrewd acquisitions within five years. To support this growth, the operations team needs to be strengthened and developed to underpin the company’s progress in performance in terms of delivery, cost and stock management, quality, and HS&E.

Critical Impact Areas Will Include

Reporting into and working closely with the business owner, the Head of Operations will strategic and day to day responsibility for all areas of operations within the business, leading operational and logistics teams and continuing to deliver a high level of customer service to all clients whilst delivering improvements in performance.
  • Designing and implementing an operational structure, putting in place scaleable processes and procedures that will form the foundation on which the business can continue to grow further.
  • Improve communication flows within operations and logistics and more generally within the business to support performance improvement and employee retention.
  • Co-ordinate the recruitment and training of all operational personnel, developing the team to reach their potential.
  • Ensure there is a cohesive approach to stock management to minimise stock holding, and in turn optimise working capital ensuring deliveries are made to order on time with high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Manage relationships with third party logistics providers as appropriate, giving clear direction and input ensuring KPIs are achieved.
The successful candidate will evidence:-
  • A proven and progressive experience in a management role in manufacturing/warehousing/distribution and the have the desire and capability to drive positive change and improvement particularly in terms of safety and quality performance and OTIF delivery.
  • Leadership, team building and coaching experience with the ability to motivate people, assess and develop employee skills.
  • Previous experience/understanding of budgeting/expense management with a good understanding of financial and accounting practices.
  • Previous experience of implementing continuous improvement/lean tools to drive improvement.
  • A full understanding of safety systems and proven experience of the successful implementation of safety rules and policies delivering improvement in safety performance.
  • A strong ability to be adaptable and flexible, with good planning and organisational skills.
Most important, however, will be the capability to lead a manufacturing/warehousing operation with a willingness to take the initiative and deliver long-term performance improvement.
