The Opportunity

Job Description - Head of Insight

We require an analytical thinker and problem solver to support the technical and strategic management of Business Intelligence. The role will be in our Insight Team, manipulating and analysing data through SQL and SSRS to support the business stakeholders. This role will underpin the way the company measures both tactical and strategic decisions across the business.

Hands on analysis:

This role is crucial to aid the implementation of our data strategy and the associated Insight infrastructure. The right candidate must enjoy being hands-on with analytical tools, and will have the skillset and experience to combine disparate datasets into a unified view of analytics.

Working with stakeholders:

Experience of gathering, understanding and shaping stakeholder requirements in order to define the brief is a must. The candidate needs to be confident with stakeholder communication & management; and capable of refining requirements through collaborative working. They will be a BI expert with the ability to demonstrate the commercial benefit of our analysis and approach when meeting with company executives and directors.

The successful candidate can really put their stamp on how data is being used within the organisation, as the business is really committed to driving forwards the analytics & reporting function. The person taking on this role will:


Key Responsibilities

  • Incorporate multiple datasets into analysis as required
  • Analyse and compare datasets through SQL
  • Visualise and communicate results through Tableau
  • Identify opportunities to enhance and re-engineer analytics processes
  • Show effective communication skills to confidently and accurately express findings
  • Analyse, extract, organise and prepare data from sources systems for migration to target systems
  • Participate in the development of management information reports, including conducting analysis, summarising data and interpretation of results
  • Provide consultative support and responses to requests for information business stakeholders
  • Take a lead on data management projects and take responsibility for defining process and quality targets
  • Facilitate data driven decision making across the organisation
  • Assist in development of overall data platform architecture
  • Troubleshoot data related issues
  • Communicate clearly project approach when it comes to data management and reporting projects.
  • Ability to undertake a variety of activities with a substantial degree of personal responsibility and autonomy. It is important to be able to work independently within a team.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Key Skills

  • Advanced Excel skills, including writing formulae and transformation of data
  • Knowledge and Practical experience of ETL processes
  • T-SQL skills to be able to extract and manipulate data
  • Excellent numerical, analytical and statistical skills
  • Experience of visualising and presenting data in BI tools, particularly SSRS
  • Strong conceptual and problem-solving skills
  • Must have the ability to manage multiple projects, as well as meet time constraints and expectations.
  • Experience in extracting and analysing data from 3rd party providers, e.g. Salesforce, GA, etc
  • Effective verbal communication skills at different levels of seniority; strong analytical and technical writing skills
  • Strong organisational skills (demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with minimal supervision.

Desirable

  • VBA Excel skills
  • PowerBI skills
  • Strong knowledge of common statistical methods
  • Project management experience, as a minimum the ability to manage delivery of work within stated timeframes
