1. Job description - Head of Gigabit Connectivity (Post 1).

We are looking for an outstanding individual to lead the Government’s broadband strategy and deliver nationwide gigabit capable broadband as
soon as possible. The successful candidate will be responsible for: Developing the Government’s overall strategy, working closely with our team of analysts and economists, and leading on regulatory issues such as the Statement of Strategic Priorities. Taking action to reduce barriers to commercial rollout, working
closely with the Barrier Busting Taskforce on a variety of legislative and non-legislative reforms, e.g. improving the diversity of the telecoms workforce.

Ensuring that the UK telecoms industry and UK consumers are ready to transition from older technology to new gigabit capable technology, starting with the transition from PSTN to VoIP. The team’s stakeholder engagement strategy, and supervising the
timely and high quality delivering of Ministerial advice, briefings, correspondence, and Parliamentary Questions.

The successful candidate will lead a team of seven, including two Grade As (equivalent to Grade 7), four Grade Bs (HEO) and one Grade C (EO).

2. Job description - Head of Future Network Strategy (Post 2)
We are looking for an outstanding individual to help develop a strong vision and supporting policy framework to deliver the UK’s digital
infrastructure, shaping the development of future wireless and fixed networks to align with the Government’s wider policy objectives. Your role will be to set the pace and momentum for the delivery of this programme of work at the strategic level.

You will manage and co-ordinate inputs from senior policy leads and a very broad range of other stakeholders in government, industry, the regulator and academia.
You will work with tech and digital policy teams to ensure we exploit synergies with the emergence or maturation of other advanced technologies that either enable or benefit from 5G services.
You will work across government to help identify, shape and support opportunities in sectors right across the economy including: health and social care; education; transport; logistics; energy and utilities; manufacturing; and, agriculture.
This is a high profile role with exposure to senior stakeholders within government and externally.
This role is part of a wider team developing the government’s wireless and gigabit strategies.

  • Communicating and Influencing: The ability to explain complex issues in a way that is easy to understand, both verbally and in writing, including through presentations.

Desirable Skills:
  • Experience of the telecommunications sector and/or knowledge of regulation or experience of the telecoms market and infrastructure investment is desirable but not essential.
  • For the future networks post, experience of strategy development and project management would be highly desirable.
