MCA have embarked on an exciting journey to change the way that we use data across the organisation to empower our people and partners to harness the power of data to make the best decisions to save lives and create safer more sustainable seas.

We have a fantastic opportunity for a data management professional to join us as the Head of Data Management in the Information and Technology Directorate, bringing their experience and using their passion and enthusiasm to work across all areas of the MCA leading a team to support our mission and help make our data vision a reality.

The Head of Data Management is a new role within our growing data team and is a pivotal role in our journey to becoming a data enabled organisation, responsible for defining and implementing the data management framework, standards, methodology and supporting technologies to enable the organisation to share, secure, protect and exploit our data assets.

Innovation and collaboration is key within this role and the successful applicant will work closely with our Information Asset owners across the organisation to educate, influence and champion adoption of best practice in data management. The Head of Data Management will be the go-to expert for all matters relating to data sharing and will communicate with senior stakeholders, influencing and proving strategic oversite on the value of data and coming up with innovative ideas on ways for MCA to better understand and make use of data.

This is a unique opportunity to really shape and make this new role your own. Reporting to the Chief Data Architect, the successful candidate will be supported and have time invested in them to help them to grow as a successful leader in a small section of Government which has a big impact.

This role can be based at any of the MCA locations advertised, however if not based at Southampton HQ, there will be an expectation to travel there as a business requirement approximately once a month. MCA supports flexible working and operates a hybrid working model between home and office for this role, giving you greater flexibility over where and when you work. Details of the arrangement will be discussed further with your line manager.

There may be a requirement for occasional travel on official duty within the UK and overseas, which may involve overnight stays away from home.
