Data Governance is the cornerstone for the data strategy at Rank Group.

As the Head of Data Governance you will embed Data Governance within the business, gaining business buy in and ensuring continued progress in delivering best in class data management and controls.

You'll be pivotal in ensuring that data delivers value to the business, a corporate focus is needed on data quality, data management principles, policies and procedures, standards and definitions, along with pragmatic action oriented working groups.

You will deliver corporate wide progress in documenting and implementing best practice in these areas.

Main Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Data Quality: Working with data owners to ensure they assume responsibility for continued improvement in data quality. Working with data stewards to ensure actions are progressed both retrospectively through data quality exception report analysis and proactively through defined processes and procedures to ensure that quality data is captured and validated.
  • Master Data Management Rules and Adoption: Articulation of master data management rules, definitions, policies and procedures to ensure data is correctly mastered, removing conflicting and duplicate data, documenting golden sources of data and data lineage. Working with business stakeholders to ensure that MDM tools are correctly deployed and used by data stewards and that activities and progress are measured and reported on.
  • Standards and Definitions: Owning the data dictionary, this role is responsible for defining data fields and attributes. Further this role owns the data glossary that aligns data fields with business terminology to mitigate against conflicting definitions and data use. Defining data standards is aligned to master data management, ensuring that data is correctly categorized and formats are consistent across the full data estate.
  • Policies, Principles and Procedures: Effective data governance principles will dictate how data is viewed across the business and subsequently how it is managed. Appropriate policies will ensure that data is managed effectively and efficiently, while the procedures will document the way that data is handled in a consistent and secure manner that minimizes risk.
  • Profiles: Access to data needs to be managed correctly, based on roles and responsibilities both internally in Rank and externally with suppliers. Creating appropriate system roles will enable the business to define the level of access and ability to access, handle and manipulate Rank data. These profiles should be consistent across Rank’s broad range of businesses and systems.
  • Corporate Cadence: This role is responsible for ensuring appropriate meetings/ workshops/ presentations take place. Ownership of the data issues register is also a key deliverable and vital to the success of the data governance strategy.
  • Team Management: Responsible for the management and development of 2 FTE, one responsible for Data Quality analysis and reporting, the other responsible for articulating data standards, definitions, policies, procedures and principles. This role is responsible for ensuring the team members have the right environment in which to deliver, as well as the appropriate skills and tools to deliver them.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in leading a data governance function, or playing a significant role in embedding data governance across a large organization.
  • Experience in managing data quality.
  • Previous ownership of a data catalogue/ data dictionary.
  • Knowledge of DAMA or similar approaches to data governance.
  • Strong understanding of GDPR legislation.
  • Experience of Data Governance tools, including MDM tooling such as Profisee, Informatica, Semarchy.
  • Data quality analysis and experience as a data steward.
  • Business acumen, able to converse with commercial stakeholders, translating data into layman’s terms.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, able to build relationships and networks across a large number of stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of the gaming industry is desirable but not essential.
