Head of Data Analytics – UK Product

Brighton; hybrid (5 days, with two days a week in the office)

Role Value Proposition:

This role involves shaping our Data Strategy and enabling solutions to bring about a data system and infrastructure that meets the needs of our growing business. Certain aspects of the work would involve actuarial modelling and reporting, and involve interactions with product development, model development, underwriting, financial reporting, experience analysis emanating from Employee Benefits and Individual Protection.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Data Strategy, Roadmap and Solutions
  • Set out a roadmap with timelines towards improving our data capability for Employee Benefits and Individual Protection
  • Execute roadmap to enable solutions for the business
  • Develop and train junior talent on operating current systems and processes
  • Supporting Actuarial team
  • Assist with data-related queries from actuarial teams in Product and central functions, as well as the reinsurance function
  • Review data-related queries arising from actuarial assumption reviews and experience studies
  • Assisting underwriters with queries on quote models

  • BAU Activities
    • Work closely with other members of the Product team to support ongoing product management and monitoring, and reporting responsibilities
    • Collaborate with other functions in the business
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

Required:
  • Actuarial background through examinations with the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries
  • Tertiary education in Actuarial Science
  • Strong technical background with MS Office, especially Excel VBA
  • The successful candidate must:
    • Be familiar with existing data systems and processes
    • Have a strong commercial and strategic mindset
    • Understanding of life insurance, ideally with UK protection market experience
    • Pay attention to detail
    • Take ownership and personal responsibility for delivering timely, high-quality work.
    • Possess strong problem-solving skills
    • Have good communication skills with the ability to interact with different stakeholders.
    • Be able to source and collate data, draw conclusions and present findings.
    • Learn quickly from experience
    • Ability to work under pressure
Preferred:
  • Experience with Python, Alteryx, SQL, Access, and other quantitative software packages
  • Innovative and creative mind
