We are looking for a Head of Content within our Marketing, Communications and Public Affairs division.

The digital era gives us new opportunities to build our England Football fanbase, and inform, engage and inspire new audiences in print, on air and online. Our talented content team has developed a wide range of channels and platforms and crafts engaging ’always on’ content to tell the story of England football, from grassroots participation to the men’s senior team and the Lionesses including our distinguished and historic Emirates Men’s and Adobe Women’s FA Cup competitions.

We are ready to take our digital publishing, content marketing and direct to consumer ambitions to the next level, and are looking for a brilliant Head of Content to drive our content strategy and plans, and develop new approaches to storytelling and content marketing campaigns.

The role will oversee all digital content, including social media channels and the England Football and FA websites, and will lead our digital media and social media strategies across all our channels. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating, delivering and managing all our digital campaigns, ensuring that they drive brand awareness, engagement, and revenue.

The role is a key member of the FA’s Marketing, Communications and Public Affairs leadership team, and will work particularly closely with the brand, CRM and Communications teams to deliver our integrated marketing and communications strategy and plan.

What will you be doing?
  • Develop and execute a content and platform strategy across a full media portfolio involving multiple brands and products
  • Drive the production of quality content which grows the fanbase, builds and deepens engagement and generates revenue
  • Design and deliver content performance metrics and KPIs
  • Develop a highly collaborative environment, internally and externally, working closely and effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide hands on editorial, publishing and production leadership.
Skills Profile:
  • Strong editorial experience and flair, with a passion for storytelling and a deep understanding of digital media, including broadcast, digital publishing and audio.
  • Excellent content production, operations, resource management and planning skills
  • The ability and expertise to lead, develop, mentor and inspire a talented content team and develop a high performance culture
  • Passionate about innovation, with the ability to pioneer new content ideas and campaigns
  • Strong budget management skills, and the experience to manage an agency roster
  • A team player who thrives in a collaborative environment
  • The role will be based at Wembley Stadium in London. It is a full-time role, with a hybrid working pattern.
  • Executes additional tasks as required in order to meet FA Group changing priorities.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures to ensure the highest standards of health, safety and wellbeing can be maintained.
  • As part of The FA’s commitment to ensuring a safe environment for everyone in football, every employee will be required to complete a DBS check. The level of the check required will be based on the activity of the specific job role and in line with legislation and government guidance.

  • Strong strategic thinking capabilities combined with demonstrated pragmatic operational problem-solving skills
  • Entrepreneurial and passionate with a desire to exceed expectations
  • Experience in insight driven decision-making and leveraging search and social trends to inform editorial effectiveness.
  • Proven experience developing communications and marketing strategies with a proven track record of delivering against targets.
  • Experience and in depth knowledge of both production and distribution across owned and third party channels
  • Ability to work effectively and thrive in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple projects and deliver on time.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making capability within a professional team environment, with the ability to handle sensitive issues effectively and confidentially.
  • Excellent influencing skills; persuasive, able to win the support and engagement of others.
  • Strong management and development skills to build and capitalise on the strengths of the team
  • Ability to develop an open, creative and constructive culture with accountability across the team
Beneficial to have:
  • Genuine interest in football with good background knowledge of sport in general.
  • Relevant Communications or Marketing or equivalent qualification.
  • Knowledge of effective paid media strategy
  • Experience planning and delivering multi-channel campaigns and a range of communications and marketing collateral for a variety of audiences.
