Head of Brand Communications and Patient Relations

Objective

  • Lead the Brand Communications and Patient Relations (BCPR) team to deliver impactful strategies in full alignment with AbbVie brand and corporate priorities to positively shape our external environment and support sustainable patient access to medicines.
  • Build AbbVie’s external profile among key stakeholders across the UK, utilize effective internal networks across the business and ensure high quality team output.
  • Support the BCPR team to challenge the status quo and maintain ambitious goals and join the External Affairs leadership team driving integrated activities and contributing to team culture.

Highlighted key responsibilities:

  • Delivering impact: Lead the BCPR team, assigning activities and ensuring with your line reports the development of aligned brand communication strategies and platforms, leveraging brand positioning data and developing key messages across multiple communication channels
  • Drive alignment across team strategies and tactical plans, distributing key priority topics across the team and delivering impact in communication and brand areas you have been assigned and are responsible for
  • Team management: Raise the bar on performance, providing direction to line reports and challenging where appropriate to increase our ambition
  • Support the development of key talent and the continued evolution of line reports competencies and skills
  • Work with the team to expand our relationships with relevant journalists and provide understanding of the media environment, utilizing this to generate content that will resonate
  • Raise the bar on the use of multi-channel content management strategies across traditional, digital, social media and non-media channels (as allowed within ABPI Code)
  • Ensure AbbVie is developing robust, transparent and effective working relationships across our Patient Association Group (PAG) community striving for consensus on priority topics and ensuring the needs of patients are represented and addressed across activity
  • Deliver effective PAG mapping with your team, anticipating trends and gaining patient insights to inform AbbVie strategies that meet their needs

Qualifications


Qualifications/Knowledge and experience:

  • Previous relevant company or PR experience in either pharmaceutical product communications or working for a patient / health related charity
  • Experience of developing and implementing patient relations and integrated communications strategies across multiple channels
  • Demonstrated success in the management of large scale communication campaigns and the influencing of external relationships
  • Track record of developing and maintaining robust, open and productive relationships with patient organisations with good judgement on the application of the appropriate industry codes and ethical considerations when engaging in this field
  • Direct or indirect experience and knowledge of wider public affairs, advocacy, campaigning and Government Affairs
