What you’ll be doing?
Supporting the business and our divisional offices, our Head Office functions cover all departments from our Executive Board through to our support functions such as Group Design and Technical, HR, Health and Safety, IT, Sales and Marketing, Commercial, Procurement, Group Finance, Corporate Affairs, as well as Legal and Company Secretariat. We also have a specialised function - Barratt Partnerships.

While the work varies from team to team, our key requirements don’t: you must be well organised, extremely helpful and resourceful, and able to use your initiative. You’ll understand that what you do is important, and impacts on your team, the department, and the wider business.

We are offering a fantastic opportunity for someone to join the Group Finance team. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, you will be expected to work closely with the Group Financial Controller and Head of Internal Audit.

You will:
  • Develop and maintain the group-wide Enterprise Risk Management strategy, framework and management systems, raising the profile of risk management.
  • Work to develop and embed within the business, second line of defense functions across the Group to improve internal control while maintaining Group-wide minimum control standards across critical risk areas
  • Respond to changes in the external risk management environment with the objective of developing an upper-quartile FTSE-100 risk management strategy
  • Prepare and present periodic risk reports the PLC Board, Audit Committee, Risk Committee, Executive Committee and other governance forums where appropriate
  • Support the Investor Relations and Finance teams in preparing risk-related disclosures in the Annual Report & Accounts
  • Develop and manage the crisis and incident management framework and procedures
  • Work with the Group CFO and other senior stakeholders to ensure risk is being considered as part of the development and monitoring of corporate strategy
  • Manage and develop the team supporting on delivering these priorities

As part of delivering these priorities, you will be expected to:

Support the Board and Management Team:

  • Identify, assess and manage critical strategic, operational and emerging risks;
  • Complete risk deep dive and qualitative and/or quantitative scenario analysis;
  • Identify financial and performance risks as part of the annual budget and longer term strategic plans;
  • Articulate, quantify and monitor risk appetite;
  • Provide guidance, training and support to build risk awareness across the business;
  • Maintain the Group’s business continuity and crisis management responses; and
  • Horizon scan and use data to increase awareness of emerging and strategic risks that may affect the business
Be accountable for:
  • Working with the Group Financial Controller to prepare the necessary analysis and materials for the Longer Term Viability Statement, Principal Risks and Uncertainties and TCFD sections of the Annual Report and Accounts
  • Working with other second and third line of defence colleagues, to create alignment and consistency in approach, ensuring all round risk support to the business
  • Setting the overall second line of defence monitoring and assurance strategy for the Group
  • Operating as the single point of contact and advice for all risk matters, developing strong working relationships with senior colleagues across the Group and other second line of defence functions
  • Keeping professionally up-to-date with developments and best practice in risk management and corporate governance, translating this for the business and ensuring the overall approach remains fit for purpose


What you’ll need?

To be successful in the role, we are looking for:

  • Ability to analyse data/information and form clear recommendations
  • Very strong leadership, relationship management and influencing skills
  • Previous experience of leading enterprise and strategic risk management teams in a listed organisation
  • Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills with the ability to contribute in a dynamic, fast-paced team atmosphere
  • Experience of strategic risk planning and monitoring techniques
  • Ability to communicate clearly at senior management forums and Board level
