What you’ll be doing?

Supporting the business and our divisional offices, our Head Office functions cover all departments from our Executive Board through to our support functions such as Group Design and Technical, HR, Health and Safety, IT, Sales and Marketing, Commercial, Procurement, Group Finance, Corporate Affairs, as well as Legal and Company Secretariat. We also have a specialised function - Barratt Partnerships.

While the work varies from team to team, our key requirements don’t: you must be well organised, extremely helpful and resourceful, and able to use your initiative. You’ll understand that what you do is important, and impacts on your team, the department, and the wider business.

Wilson Bowden is seeking to grow its logistics strategic land portfolio further. We also have an active logistics development programme to deliver 1m sq ft over the next 2 years. Our existing Planning Director, who has been with us for 25 years, is now stepping into retirement, so this presents a fantastic opportunity to join the team. Wilson Bowden is a wholly owned subsidiary of Barratt Developments plc, so additionally, this potentially offers the opportunity to work on mixed use strategic sites with the Housing Divisions.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed planning professional, who can oversee and drive forward the successful preparation, submission and delivery of Planning Applications on behalf of the Company via the Consultancy team. Must have a clear knowledge and experience of the development management system, be able to manage Consultants and liaise with Statutory Consultees in a proactive manner and pick up with principals to clear the inevitable blockages that occur within the planning system. A clear understanding of the Section 106 process, and the ability to negotiate terms and instruct lawyers is also required.

The role will include working in active partnerships, liaising with local groups and Planning Officers, and attending meetings with public and private sector bodies, in order to deliver the Company’s planning function.

In addition, and working with the development team at Wilson Bowden Developments, the candidate will need the ability to oversee and progress the Company’s existing strategic land portfolio, seek out and negotiate new strategic land logistics opportunities and provide assessments of the prospects of successful delivery through the planning system. The role requires the ability to brief and inform Landowners and their Agents of ongoing actions, undertaking and managing the due diligence procedures with external Consultants, as well as ensuring appropriate and robust submissions to all stages of the plan-making process.

The role will report direct to the Company’s Managing Director. This is a challenging and exciting opportunity to work on major commercial projects across England with a National Developer.

What you’ll need?
To be successful in the role, we are looking for:
  • A strong team player
  • MRTPI or RICS qualified
  • 6-8 years experience in a similar role
  • Good presentational skills
  • The confidence to attend and lead meetings
  • The ability to work alone when the need arises.
  • A potential future Director candidate subject to proving ability, performance, team working and commitment
