Overview:
Element has an opportunity for a Group External Communications Managerwho can work remotely from anywhere within the United Kingdom and is responsible for protecting and enhancing Element’s reputation with the media and a range of other external stakeholders. The role encompasses the Group’s PR program and social media presence, as well as covering media relations and issues management.

The ideal candidate will have strong project management, time management & organizational skills and be a pro-active and self-starting individual who can maintain calmness and clarity of thinking under pressure. In this role you will work closely with the Group Communications team and with the business unit marketing teams to drive consistency of message across channels, further developing Element’s reputation as a successful challenger brand in the Testing, Inspection, and Certification (TIC) sector. The role will have one direct report and requires a mixture of home working and office attendance, as required – Edinburgh Shared Service Centre or London HQ with occasional travel to operational locations.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead Element PR program to ensure that the Group’s brand, story and key messages are consistently and accurately articulated to external audiences
  • Create and deliver engaging content that highlights Element’s strategy, purpose, ambition, technical expertise, growth successes and recognition
  • Develop Element’s profile and reputation for innovation and sustainability in the TIC sector
  • Use a diverse range of channels and partners to reach relevant audiences, with increased emphasis on social media engagement and campaigns
  • Lead media contact for the business, ensuring any reputational threats/issues are managed effectively to resolution; advice and counsel to internal stakeholders on potential risks and how to manage them
  • Project management of Element Materials Technology annual report and lead for M&A communications
  • Build relationships with relevant trade, specialist, and business media to build Element’s credibility in the end markets we serve, with particular emphasis on high-growth ones – life sciences, connected technologies, environmental
  • Work closely with regional and business unit marketing teams to align external communications activity with marketing plans and campaigns
  • Work with a range of external partners, as required, e.g. marketing agency, PR agency, customers’ communications teams
  • Ensure all relevant media and social media policies and guidelines are maintained and reflect the Group’s needs; co-own and develop Element style guide
Skills / Qualifications:
  • Degree or equivalent experience with relevant professional qualifications / memberships, e.g. Chartered Institute of Public Relations
  • At least 8 years’ communications experience in private or public sector organizations or agency, with evidence of strong digital element
  • Strong experience and evidence of writing, editing and proofreading ability, with fine attention to detail
  • Ability to write for varying and multiple audiences/channels
  • Experience of acting as company spokesperson
  • Experience and demonstration of ability to work globally with multi-national teams and senior stakeholders
  • Experience of working through and/or managing external agencies
  • Experience of a technical / industrial / scientific organization or sector preferred
  • Existing, relevant media contacts an advantage
  • Proficiency in key languages other than English an advantage, but not essential (German, Swedish, Spanish, Dutch, Korean, French)
