Job Description
As a Technical Director in our Site Evaluation & Restoration (SER) team you will be an integrated member of our award-winning UK business unit dedicated to investigating, assessing, and managing every aspect of the below ground environment.

Working in our diverse and inclusive project teams you will be responsible for developing strategies for data collection, site management, project management, reporting and interpretation of results for a wide range of projects with reach into almost every sector of the UK market.

We are looking for a TD with significant and dedicated experience in mainstream ground investigation to join our growing team providing GI services to Network Rail, Highways England, the Canal & River Trust and a wide range of major contractor clients. As a leader in the business, we require somebody with a proven in-depth knowledge of investigation techniques, site access management, safe systems of work and the rationale for doing such work (i.e. both land contamination and geotechnical skills). A proven track record of leadership, encompassing project direction, team management and being a health & safety champion is essential. Business development is a key skill requirement; building collaborative relationships with our internal engineering teams and also facing into the external market to generate new opportunities. Notwithstanding, business development and the underlying SER Growth strategy is a shared responsibility in the leadership team of which the successful candidate will be a part; a significant degree of support will be available.

The SER team works closely with our global colleagues to share knowledge and collaborate on projects all over the world. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include-
  • Engage with clients and all key stakeholders to develop a shared understanding of project objectives and to establish protocols for working together.
Guide clients through the technical decision-making process and provide alternative solutions if there are changes to project parameters.
  • Work collaboratively with other sectors/disciplines to ensure the integrity of the overall project.
  • Develop strong, partnering relationships with senior client personnel in order to identify and resolve issues, to identify business opportunities and to influence their decision making.
  • Lead the preparation of high-quality winning bids.
  • Contribute to the strategic development of the SER team and the ongoing improved performance of our dedicated ground investigation service line, with major headcount, service and geographic growth anticipated
  • Develop and propose potential solutions, including solutions that fall outside the standard codes where appropriate, to meet or exceed client expectations.
  • Lead the delivery of projects (where necessary) ensuring client satisfaction, effective project management and good communication and collaboration between Arcadis colleagues.
  • Coach and mentor specialist professionals to support the development of the whole Arcadis talent pool
  • Keep up to date with technical and legislative developments in the industry sector and seek out opportunities to develop a strong and credible professional profile (e.g. conference presentations, publications and participation in technical committees)
  • Develop and maintain a good understanding of the services delivered by Arcadis, of our clients’ business and the industry sector to facilitate personal networking and to consolidate personal and company credibility in the industry.

Requirements

  • BSc qualified (or higher) in Geology, Environmental Geoscience, Engineering Geology, Environmental Science or similar.
  • Chartered professional status.
  • Proven track record of working at managerial level in geo-environmental projects on the ground investigation side; specifically in managing contracted works (typically via Thomas Telford specifications).
  • Experience in managing business relationships at senior management level.
  • Ability to work both independently, within a local office-based team, and larger multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects to tight deadlines and budgets.
  • Experience in mentoring team members to a high level.
  • Recognised as distinguished or an expert in your field with well-established industry networks.
  • Strong market understanding of environmental and/or engineering consultancy services
Qualifications

  • BSc qualified (or higher) in Geology, Environmental Geoscience, Engineering Geology, Environmental Science or similar.
  • Chartered professional status.
