Generator Service Engineer

This is a unique Generator Service Engineering role within EDF’s Fleet Turbine & Maintenance Group where delivering safe, reliable power is at the heart of our Generation Business. Your base location will be at our Heysham Power Station, however we support the UK wide fleet, as such travel to our other locations may at time be required.

The Fleet Turbine & Maintenance Group carries out the maintenance of Steam Turbines, Generators and associated plant at Various EDF Sites. Your responsibilities as a Generator Engineer within the Fleet Turbine & Maintenance Group will be to support the fleet’s generator assets, as well as their auxiliary systems and associated electrical generation equipment. You will provide technical expertise both electrically and mechanically, to ensure equipment reliability and alignment to international standards.

Your experience with high voltage generators will be paramount to your success in the role, alongside previous work on rotating plant or in the power generation industry.

What you’ll be doing

Your day-to-day duties will include:

  • Assessing plant condition and future operational strategy and recommending the engineering programme of work for station outages and maintenance.
  • Proposing engineering plant modifications.
  • Providing fault diagnosis and solutions to the generator and other electrical plant & equipment.
  • Assessing and analysing plant performance data.
  • Acting as technical oversight and signatory within the Quality Management System.
  • Providing technical specifications and assessments for the supply of spares.
  • Liaising with external suppliers and contractors.
  • Utilise best practice, new innovative design & engineering solutions to support fleet engineering responses.
  • Contribute to departmental business plans that drive performance improvement in line with the Business Plan & KPI’s.

Who you are

As a Generator Service Engineer you’ll have knowledge of power station high voltage electrical equipment & associated plant. You’ll be able to provide technical oversight to plant faults as they occur and specify methodologies for repair, refurbishment and modification.

An industry recognised Electrical or Mechanical Engineering qualification will be essential (minimum requirement is a HND), you may also be working towards or already part of a professional association, or Chartered Engineer status.

You’ll also have:

  • Knowledge of High voltage generators, switching, protection and control equipment, transformers, distribution systems and Auxiliary systems associated with electrical generation equipment.
  • Mechanical aspects of large generator lubrication and cooling systems.
  • Operation and testing of high voltage electrical plant and associated systems.
  • Experience of adhering to Work Management processes and procedures.
