Job Description
At Arcadis UK we are looking for a Fire safety Engineer to join our Strategic Environmental & Safety Consulting (SESC) team, to provide Fire Safety Engineering work that support design projects within and outside the UK.

As a fire engineering and fire risk management team, we are focused on creating safe, innovative and sustainable solutions within the built environment. Your experience will be critical because we take our passion of improving quality of life seriously and provide our clients with fire safety strategies that make an impact.

We are looking to grow our team due to increased project demand and because we’re such a diverse business, we can offer you variety as standard. You’ll get to work on a range of different projects across the buildings sector, but also across specialist sectors such automotive, aviation and manufacturing.

The role will be based in our one of our offices in the South East, North West or Bristol and there will be the opportunity to regularly work from home. In line with current safety regulations the role will require site visits approx. once a week.

Your Day-to-Day-
  • Development of Fire Safety Strategy reports.
  • Means of escape analysis (including assessment of travel distances, escape routes and exit widths/capacities; RSET calculations; development of emergency evacuation plans).
  • Assessment and understanding of the main British fire safety legislation and standards applied to buildings such as Approved Document B (AD B), BS 9999, BS 9991, BS 7974.
  • Knowledge of changes to the Building Regulations and upcoming safety bills such as the New Fire Safety Bill and Building Safety Bill.
  • Third party review/design verification.
  • Attendance of internal and external design team meetings.
  • Site inspections with initial supervision.
  • Supporting on the development of Fire Risk Assessment reports.
  • Computational Fluid Dynamics modelling using programs such as FDS, Pyrosim and Smokeview. Zone modelling with progams such as CFast and B-Risk.
  • Movement Modelling Analysis (PeMMA)- evacuation and crowd simulations using computational models such as EXODUS and SIMULEX (desirable but not essential).
  • Understanding of other fire safety guidance such as rail guidance (London Underground fire safety standards, Network Rail standards, BS 9992); international fire safety guidance such as NFPA 101; other guidance documents such as CIBSE Guide E (desirable but not essential).

Requirements

  • Track record of working as a Fire Engineer with experience in designing and implementing fire safety strategies.
  • Understanding of fire dynamics, heat transfer and smoke behaviour principles in enclosed environments.
  • Good knowledge of Bluebeam or similar for marking up architectural drawings with fire safety requirements/commentary.
  • Basic understanding on Active Fire Protection (AFP) and Passive Fire Protection (PFP) systems.
  • Basic knowledge on fire modelling simulations (using zone models such as CFAST and CFD-based models such as FDS).
  • Ability/Willingness to attend site work.
  • Desired - Chartered Fire Engineer.
