St Mary’s Calne is a leading independent boarding and day school for girls aged 11-18. St Margaret’s Prep, which is part of the family, is a preparatory school for boys and girls aged 2-11. We are seeking to appoint an outstanding Financial Controller to play a key part in the continued success of our schools.

The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of all financial procedures and controls; financial reporting and compliance; providing advice to the Heads and Bursar; and giving guidance to all budget holders and other staff regarding financial management.

Specific duties include the development of financial and management reporting systems, analysis of changes to income and expenditure, monitoring departmental and other expenditure against budgets, provision of monthly management accounts, budget preparation and cash flow forecasting and preparation of annual accounts and audit information. This post requires a qualified accountant with experience of integrated accounting software and substantial IT skills. Experience within an independent school or academy is desirable but not essential. Also advantageous would be charitable sector experience, knowledge of VAT, Payroll, PAYE and NI and experience of change management or process improvement.

Personally, you will be an independent self-starter with the ability to operate at different levels as required in a high-performing school and commercial environment. Good leadership, team and interpersonal skills are essential as are exceptional communication skills. You will also be well organised and resourceful and able to meet deadlines in a wide and demanding role.

This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week, all year round. Office hours are 8.30am to 5pm but this can be flexible if required. Salary for this position is dependant on experience but would be expected to be in the region of £50,000 to £55,000 per annum.
