The Role

The Financial Control & Reporting team are currently in a period of change, transitioning away from its traditional ways of working into one where governance & control is key. This role is integral to driving that change through, and in challenging current ways of working.

The role will support the Head of Financial Reporting & Control and Financial Controllers in providing comfort over the integrity of the financial statements, ensuring that a strong financial control environment exists over finance processes within the Specsavers Group.

The role primarily has responsibility for accounting activities for the UK and Guernsey group entities but may also require involvement in international and store entities in terms of balance sheet integrity and internal control governance.

Working closely with the wider finance community, the individual needs to have a solid understanding of the finance processes to identify and suggest standardised ways of work to enhance the control environment and drive efficiencies.

There are three key areas of responsibility for this role: Leadership, Financial Control and Financial Reporting.

The individual

Essential skills include

  • Qualified Accountant with a general knowledge of financial processes and accounting flows/controls.
  • Good understanding of the principles of and practical experience of preparation of group and company accounts prepared under UK GAAP.
  • Experience of maintaining accounting records using dedicated accounting system.
  • An analytical mind-set with an ability to review and question data integrity
  • Good interpersonal and relationship building skills to develop productive working partnerships across all levels of the organisation.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Resilient and tenacious with a propensity to persevere.
