Job Title - Field Service Engineer (mechanical)
COMPANY SUMMARY
The Client designs, installs and maintains renewable energy systems. They have a strong focus on hydropower and off-grid systems but with an increasing project base including solar, wind power and diesel generators. The projects can be located throughout Scotland, but the majority of the work is in the Highland Region.
Most of the projects are unique and they work with Clients to develop solutions that give them the potential to meet their energy requirements, whether these are base energy systems for off-grid Clients or, increasingly, systems that allow them to manage their own generation locally.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Field Service Engineer will lead on the company’s servicing and site installation work on projects throughout Scotland. These include operational hydro schemes, off grid renewable systems (hydro & solar), and backup diesel generator locations.
Working as part of a small team of operational and office staff, you will be involved in all aspects of the Company’s projects from sales through to delivery and then onto regular maintenance.
The primary focus of the role will be site-based operations with hands on work primarily on the servicing, maintenance but also installation of hydro, solar and diesel generation systems. It will also involve site visits to gather information during the early stages of projects such as Feasibility Studies or Design.
The role will also involve working on the company’s products
The position also involves office and workshop-based tasks although it is not expected that this will form the majority of the time spent in the role. Office based work will take the form of processing site-based paperwork (job sheets, materials ordering, timesheets, environmental supporting paperwork).
As required the role will also involve the servicing and maintenance of the company’s tools and equipment and will involve working away from home for periods at a time.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Key responsibilities in System Construction / Maintenance to include;
Site Representative (all projects)
Whilst principal company representative on site, responsible for PE staff on site.
Health & Safety Responsibility.
Responsibility for ensuring work activities adhere to environmental rules and regulations relevant to the project.
Responsibility for communicating with and organising contractors on site.
Take responsibility for company equipment and reputation on site.
Preparation, completion and submission of project site-based paperwork which might include:
Job Worksheets.
Risk Assessments.
Site Diary.
Delivery notes.
Drawing notes.
Maintenance & Servicing
Carrying out standard maintenance visits for hydro schemes, off grid systems and diesel generator sets.
Overhaul of all systems.
Attending call outs, Problem Solving and Fault Finding.
Carryout out site assessment / first visit reviews for New Clients.
Preparing maintenance guidance documents.
Completing and filing maintenance reports.
Engineering & Construction
Reading & Interpreting Drawings.
Installation of Turbines and Control Systems
Installation of diesel generator systems
Installation of battery systems
Assist with renewable installations
Hydro Intakes
Pipelines and Pipeline installation
Turbine House Construction and Fitting out
Preparation of plans and drawings of key elements
Liaising with office-based staff on the timely ordering and delivery of materials.
Schedule and carrying out site activities within project budgets and timelines.
Delivering Scope of Work to a good finish.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
Must have 5 years:
- Work with rotating plant (pumps, engines, motors)
- Diesel Generator / Engine servicing & repair
- Operation & Maintenance of Hydraulic Systems
- Fault Finding & Diagnostics
- Operation & Maintenance of Industrial Plant Control Systems
- Operation & Maintenance of Pressure Systems
Preferred Skills
- Experience of hydro schemes
- Electrical Industrial System Testing
You would need to have:
- Ability to work flexibly as part of a small team and as determined by business requirements
- Good oral, written and presentation skills, ability to communicate with colleagues at all levels
- Ability to use own judgement to make and take responsibility for decisions
- Basic Microsoft Office skills including Word, Excel & Powerpoint
- Clean Driving Licence
