Job Description

We are recruiting an Equalities Engagement Officer to act as lead officer for the Community Planning Partnership, developing and delivering a range of consultation and engagement processes to enable those from protected characteristic groups to contribute to and influence their work. The successful person will be responsible for developing and supporting a range of internal and external groups, including community groups, on equalities issues; monitoring and reporting performance and progress; devising and delivering training on equalities issues to wide range of stakeholders; working with community groups to broaden understanding of equalities issues and support them in their work; advising on policies, procedures and processes relating to equalities issues. This post requires regular evening and occasional weekend working.

Essential

A degree or equivalent qualification indicative of the ability to research, analyse and report. Detailed knowledge of local government corporate working practices and sound knowledge of current issues in local government.

A high level of competency in communication, presentational and interpersonal skills, strong organisational and analytical skills and practical facilitation skills.

Ability to develop and implement a project plan to budget and timescale.

Desirable

A postgraduate qualification in a business or management discipline or similar subject. Previous experience of working in a practical equalities setting.

Please note that it is Midlothian Councils policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.

Based on you working 21.5 hours over 52 weeks per year the minimum actual salary for this position is £22,729.08 per annum.

Responsibilities

This post is considered Regulated Work with Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007. Therefore, it is an offence to apply if you are barred from working with children.

Successful candidates will require PVG Scheme membership for Regulated Work with Children, you will be required to join the Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to commencing employment with Midlothian Council, the cost of which will be met by you.
