We are looking for passionate Graduates to join our Environmental, Health, Safety, and Quality Specialist teams.

The first 3 months of the ESH&Q pathway will be spent immersing yourself within the ESH&Q function understanding fully about our business as a whole and the ESH&Q function. Following the initial 3 months you will specialise in 1 of the following 3 technical disciplines:

  • Environment
  • Nuclear Safety Case
  • Quality

Within each technical discipline, you will experience a variety of placements where you will develop a core set of technical skills for your chosen discipline and make a genuine contribution to keeping the UK safe and secure.

Environment

As a graduate environmental specialist, you will work as part of a team to implement an Environmental Management System, certified to ISO 14001(internationally agreed and recognised standard for Environmental Management Systems). The role will involve undertaking environmental risk assessments to identify appropriate control measures, ensuring compliance with Environmental Permits and driving environmental improvements through the delivery of the Environmental Sustainability Strategy, including climate change resilience and transition to net zero plans.

The role offers the facilities the opportunity to work across the whole project lifecycle including; the design of new facilities, large modifications of existing facilities, production, research & development facilities and decommissioning facilities. The role also provides the opportunity to develop an understanding of how we interact with its regulators.

As an Environmental Specialist, you will be working alongside other environmental professionals interfacing with regulators, management, facility operators, infrastructure project delivery and technical support as part of an integrated team.

Nuclear Safety

As a nuclear safety case assessor, you will work as part of a team to assess the risks and consequences of design, engineering, and operational failures. This will include modelling accident scenarios and identifying controls to prevent them.

The role offers the opportunity to work across the whole project lifecycle including the design of new facilities, large modifications of existing facilities, production facilities, research & development facilities, and decommissioning facilities as part of a structured two-year development programme. The role also provides the opportunity to develop an understanding of how we interact with its regulators.

You will be engaged in technical problem-solving, preparing detailed reports to argue and justify the tolerability of nuclear, radiological, environmental, and conventional hazards, whilst liaising with a diverse group of people at many levels within the company including operators, facility management, engineers, and regulators.

Quality

As a graduate Quality Engineer, you will work towards becoming a key member of the Quality function of the future, bringing new ideas and innovation, whilst maintaining robust standards, policies, processes and procedures and compliance with our licence conditions. Working towards membership of the CQI on a planned career path you will ensure that the ISO 9001-certified Quality Management System, policies, and procedures are adhered to.

Requirements

  • You are a recent graduate or will graduate this coming summer (2024)
  • You will graduate with a bachelors or masters degree typically in any of these science or engineering subjects and have been awarded your degree of a 2:2 or above:
    • Environment
    • Environmental Science
    • Environmental Management
    • Geography
    • Geology
    • Nuclear Safety
    • Science or Engineering.
    • Typically from Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear materials, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or Physics but we would welcome individuals who have a science or engineering degree with an interest in safety
