Join us as Engineering Manager and you will be directly responsible for managing the mechanical and electrical engineering teams that create some of the world’s finest machine tool technologies.

Reporting to the Technical Director, you will help ensure the on-time delivery of innovative, ultra-precise CNC machine tools to our global customer base. You will oversee the smooth processing and completion of customer contracts and orders, support our customer service team and assist the Sales Director with machine tool quotations and proposals. As a key contributor, you will work as part of a team focused on R&D and new product development.

Supporting our senior leadership team (directors and fellow senior managers), you will forge strong working relationships with colleagues in software, sales, applications, purchasing and manufacturing; our HR Manager, international sales agents, representatives and customers.

Engineering Manager Responsibilities:

  • Providing the engineering team with technical guidance, advice, leadership and inspiration,
  • Managing personnel, budgets, resource planning and activities in the mechanical/ electrical/electronic engineering department, including design, drawing office and electrical systems,
  • Managing the issuing of Bills of Material and purchased-item specifications; ensuring on-time completion of customer contracts,
  • Working with the Technical Director to coordinate overlapping activities, such as value analysis, new product development and R&D,
  • Working with the Sales Director to assess and respond to customer enquiries for new machines, upgrades and modifications,
  • Working with the Customer Service Director to support problem-solving enquiries and requests for technical support,
  • Working with the HR Manager to support engineering staff processes, including appraisals and recruitment.

Engineering Manager Requirements:

Ideally, you will have at least ten years’ experience gained in technology-based machinery design, manufacturing and automation. You will be qualified to degree or higher technician HNC/HND-level in mechanical or electrical/electronic engineering. With a sound knowledge of quality and best practice in either machinery or automation, you’ll understand hydraulics, pneumatics and servo-control systems. Other requirements include:

  • A solid knowledge of engineering functions and processes, including ERP, MRP and CAD,
  • Knowledge of Machinery Directive, CE and UK-CA standards and compliance,
  • Some sales and contract management experience,
  • A resilient and positive attitude, supportive but able to act assertively if required,
  • Self-motivated and able to operate effectively with minimum supervision,
  • Good personal presentation, written and verbal communication skills,
  • Open-minded, able to listen well, make decisions and adapt pragmatically,
  • High degree of attention to detail and accuracy,
  • Able to travel in UK, EU and overseas, as required.
