Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide technical support with the design, development, business analysis and use of Telecoms and IP Data Networks technology including architecture integration capabilities
  • Provide overall project management and direction to team members in the delivery of high-quality solutions within committed timeframes and cost
  • Understand and capture technical requirements when providing network impact analysis for new projects
  • Translate key stakeholder requirements into specifications and proposed solutions
  • Articulate the IP Data Network solutions to internal teams, ensuring the solution provides straight forward deployment to be managed on a continual basis
  • Provide your continual self-development and technical training to maintain an appropriate and current understanding of industry best practices and technology advancements with Manufacturer equipment, as required
  • Ensure appropriate formal delegations are in place to provide continuity of support in your absence and support reasonable delegation from colleagues or your team leader
  • Fully support reasonable alterations to normal duties and additional measures that may be required during period where the Major Incident Management Plan (MIMP) is invoked
  • Ensure following any changes accountable to you, that system records and monitoring accurately reflects the current network
  • Support any internal and external auditing of the IP Data Networks area including ownership and delivery assigned audit actions within agreed timescale
  • Provide appropriate support to other Team members as required
  • Comply with all requirements in relation to incident and change control processes
  • Comply at all times with health, safety and environment policies and procedures
  • Participate in the Telecoms standby rota

Key Competencies

  • A proven technical background in IP Data Networking Systems & Support
  • A proven background in delivery of Telecoms projects
  • Understanding of networks security best practice and remote access technologies
  • Intermediate understanding of Telecoms network & transmission systems and their architecture
  • Intermediate understanding integration of data systems to other systems and networks
  • Decisions and judgement will be required as part of the continuous improvement regime

Qualifications and Attributes
Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Qualified at least to HNC level in relevant subject
  • Intermediate knowledge and understanding of IP communications principles
  • Intermediate understanding of transmission systems and their architecture
  • Intermediate understanding of IP systems and their architecture
  • Control and administration of data systems
  • Intermediate understanding integration of IP systems to other systems and networks
  • Developed Awareness of current and future IP technologies and their applications
  • Can describe most procedures and practices to minimise IP system downtime and increase availability
  • Can provide 2nd line basic operation and support of IP systems and services
  • Can design and deliver basic LAN / WAN re-configurations
  • Advanced understanding of the TCP/IP Protocols
  • Overview knowledge of network security issues and counter measures
  • Presentation skills and negotiation skills
  • Project Management skills and knowledge including: estimating, scope management, budget management, time management, risk management, change management, issue/conflict resolution, communication management, quality management, testing plans, training plans, team management
  • Experience managing teams

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Accredited Lean Six Sigma tools and techniques at Green Belt Level or above.
  • ITIL Foundation
  • PRINCE II Foundation or similar recognised project management methodology
  • PRINCE II Practitioner
  • Evidence in decision making and prioritization of workloads
  • Experience in delivery of projects
