Salary: £21,730 to £23,177 a year Per Annum/Pro Rata

Length of contract: Permanent

Hours: 22.5 hours or 37.5 hours per week

Job Summary

Our client are looking to recruit several Emergency Call Takers to join their teams’ Emergency Operations Centre in Otterbourne, Hampshire. As an Ambulance Emergency Call Taker, you will be directly involved with taking live 999 ambulance emergency calls, taking vital information to help arrange the most appropriate care and support.

Roles and responsibilities of an Emergency Call Taker include:

  • To efficiently prioritise emergency, urgent and routine calls using a computer aided triage.
  • Provide all callers with appropriate pre-arrival instructions including cardiopulmonary resuscitation, choking procedures, childbirth procedures and the treatment of unconscious patients.
  • To operate telephony equipment specific to role.

To be successful in this role we require candidates to meet the following criteria:

  • Competent in the use of IT systems
  • GCSE grades 4-9 or equivalent in Maths and English
  • Customer service experience from a telephone or face to face role
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to listen and record information accurately
  • Ability to remain calm whilst working in a pressurised environment
  • Attention to detail and accurate data entry skills

Person Specification

Essential

  • Experience of working in a customer focused environment
  • Experience of using a computerised system
  • Awareness of equality and diversity in the working environment and the surrounding community

Desirable

  • Geographical knowledge of the Operational area
  • Experience of working in a call centre
  • Experience of working rotating shifts
  • Previous NHS experience
  • Previous experience of patient care
  • Disclosure and Barring Service Check
