As we work towards our mission and goals, UKAEA has devised values (Innovative, Committed, Trusted and Collaborative) that capture the spirit of how we work.Job DescriptionWho are we looking for?In this role you will provide electronic engineering capabilities and expertise working across UKAEA projects and programmes.You will proactively participate in the design, development, build, test, commissioning and maintenance of electronic cards/assemblies/sub-assemblies and control & instrumentation systems for UKAEA projects and programmes.What will you be responsible for?
  • Leading and delivering small to medium work packages and technical studies working with Engineers and Technicians to design, install and commission electronic systems
  • Develop and apply technical skills related to the design, modification, procurement/construction, development, implementation, installation, commissioning and maintenance of hardware and software, control systems and protection systems to enable the successful delivery of projects and programmes across UKAEA
  • Provide technical advice on build, test, evaluation and repair of electronics modules, electronic cards and sub-assemblies
  • Ensuring that all relevant UKAEA safety, quality assurance and technical procedures are followed throughout the life cycle of the project
  • Generate electronics schematics and Printed Circuit Board (PCB) layout using CAD software
  • Electronics design and FPGA programming
  • Make appropriate use of modelling and design tools (e.g. PSIM, MatLab, Simulink, and CAD)
  • Prepare work control documentation for plant related activities and supervise electricians/fitters and technicians that are undertaking the work
QualificationsEssential skills, experience and competence required
  • An honours degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or a related discipline and demonstrable post graduate experience in an electrical/electronic engineering role, or an HND in an Electrical/Electronic discipline, or equivalent qualification level, with significant industrial experience
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Good interpersonal and communications skills, both written and oral
  • An ability to work well both alone and as part of a team with an ability to adapt to a variety of requirements and tasks
  • Being flexible and able to work across teams and the business where necessary
  • FPGA programming experience
  • Experience in using CAD software for Electronics circuits and PCB design
Desirable Skills, Experience And Competence
  • Demonstrated success in working with a multi-disciplinary team in a dynamic research environment
  • Some experience in supervising others
