Lead Electrical Engineer

Location: Clevedon, Somerset

Salary up to £57K

Plus Bonus up to 7.5% bonus

Plus Pension with a company contribution of up to 8%

The company Design and Manufacturer of sophisticated exhaust management systems which are integral to manufacturing processes for semiconductors, flat panel displays, LEDs and solar.

Reporting to the NPI Manager, lead a high-performing team to deliver product requirements

Ensure Control and Coordination of the engineering design to meet specifications, ensuring cost-effective solutions that meet the prime cost & product requirements.

Make engineering decision selecting the best solution to engineering problems

Develop & motivate the engineering team

Accountable for system design

Work together with the project leader in development of project plans to meet project deliverables

Support the NPI Manager to ensure the team have the correct knowledge and identify training needs.

Engineering risk identification, control and mitigation, escalate and to agree appropriate higher-level mitigation.

Main Responsibilities

Work with the project leader to understand and ensure plans are accurate accounting for engineering effort and skills set.

Responsible for ensuring the engineering output meets the requirements as detailed in the project master specification

Deliver the technical aspects of the product following the agreed specification.

Guide consistency of engineering solutions across platforms and machine types

Promote the use of new technologies and work with R&D teams (including IDA/Core Tech/Other technology centres and product companies)

Champion modularity.

Lead the system design intent, approve designs, calculations, and test specification.

Ensure designs conform to required standards

Own and ensure execution of all compliance, safety testing and type testing, reviewing, and approving reports generated by the engineering team

Identify appropriate PCP engineering deliverables & ensuring they are performed for PCP gates

Ensure valid work packages are created and approve work packages for project execution

Lead by example, ensuring engineers follow safe working practices

Help develop engineering process following the department needs

Provide direction to all team members, leading and facilitating delivery of the product.

Define, update, report on team performance.

Preparation and organisation of engineering deliverables for all stage gates.

Support independent project peer reviews.

Team coaching and supporting individual development

Line management of direct reports

Qualifications And Experience

Detailed knowledge of Electrical Engineering principles and standards relative to this level of role (Lead Engineer).

10 years’ involvement in the process of product development in a high technology environment

3 years’ experience leading engineering activities

Experience of project coordination and management of teams

Leadership skills, high levels of energy with team engagement.

Ability to manage complex engineering task – a understanding of delivering engineered solutions, to specification and on budget.

Technical/commercial awareness to balance potentially conflicting commercial and technical drivers.

Experience of project governance/ methodology

Engineering or Scientific degree

Excellent IT literacy, being a competent user of MS Office

Develop relationships with internal and external customers / suppliers

Motivated to provide solutions, ideas and innovations in a positive way.

Understand the broader business

Knowledge of process improvement
