Electrical Designer - Semiconductor Division

Edwards are currently recruiting for an Electrical Designer to join the expanding Systems & Solutions team within the Semiconductor Division. Edwards is market leader within the Semiconductor industry and sits within the Vacuum Technique Business Area (VTBA) of Atlas Copco Group.

The Electrical Designer will be a key member within a highly motivated technical team developing and manufacturing complex systems and solutions for the semiconductor industry. With the support of the Lead Engineer, the Electrical Designer will play a pivotal role developing concept and design proposals for both power and control systems ensuring, understanding and alignment within both the immediate team and global stakeholders, during the full lifecycle of the development programme. The Electrical Designer will also be required to provide drawings, BOM’s, compliance documentation and technical support enabling the ’first of kind’ manufacture and offer key guidance during the subsequent handover of technology to our global NPI Teams. Due to the global nature of the role, it will require flexibility in working with different time zones across the globe and there may be some international travel.

The role is based at our Global Technology Centre and company headquarters in Burgess Hill, West Sussex, but flexible working is available. The Global Technology Centre is the global hub for all the divisions within the business, and is where the senior management team and global functions are based, including research and development, so is a perfect location for connecting with all parts of the organisation.

If you enjoy working within a highly dynamic and high performing team, then this opportunity may be for you. The role could be suitable for both a Senior Electrical Designer, or someone who is still developing their technical expertise, but essentially the successful candidate will be excited to be a part of our growth journey and keen to develop their skills and experience.

Main Responsibilities

  • Ability to design complex electrical detail to relevant standards using 2D CAD tools, typically Autocad Electrical and/or Visio.
  • Experience with 3 phase busbars and power components typically in the 200 to 480V range to around 600A.
  • Sound understanding of PLC Control Systems, network communication and low volt control circuits.
  • Able to present clear electrical system specifications.
  • Use of engineering calculations to verify new designs or update current products.
  • Creation of documentation including schematics, one-line drawings and bills of materials.
  • Selection and specification of electrical components, cabling and sub-assemblies.
  • Experience of 3D (Catia V5 or V6 would be an advantage) to add electrical visualisation and space claim in complex 3D assemblies.
  • An understanding of designing in support of compliance approval - Knowledge of CE, EN, UL, NFPA will be advantageous.
  • Prepare presentations typically using Microsoft Office Apps to ensure team and customer understanding and alignment.
  • Experience of FMEA, HAZOP, DFMEA and other design and risk analysis techniques.

  • Problem Solving – ability to solve and diagnose problems both in-house and on customers’ site and resolve with practical solutions – use of a range of problem-solving techniques, root cause analysis etc.
  • An ability to analyse and present data and statistically assess the results.
  • Used to working, in a multidisciplinary environment where rapid change is the norm rather than the exception.
