Job Purpose and Impact

This position is in Cargill’s animal nutrition and health business, where we improve lives through better nutrition. This division has over 20,000 employees at 280 locations in 40 countries globally. We produce nearly 18 million metric tons of feed per year, and the work we do touches the plates of more than 1 billion people every day. The role is based at our Cargill Animal Nutrition site in Dalton, near Thirsk in North Yorkshire.

The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist will manage the environmental, health and safety requirements of Cargill at the Dalton location. The position holder will motivate, inspire and engage others to work towards common safety and environmental practices and help to measure key EHS goals. The position reports to the Regional EHS Manager and will closely support the Plant Manager. Join us in our efforts to maintain a zero-harm culture across Cargill.

The post holder will lead the implementation, execution and maintenance of the environmental, health and safety management systems at a medium complexity facility. They will serve as a subject matter expert for the application of safe, compliant operational practices and demonstrate compliance with company policy, work processes, programmes and standards, and environmental, health and safety regulations.

Key Accountabilities
  • Support the plant manager in facilitating the community and governmental interaction and the external reputation.
  • Partner with regional domain and country environmental, health and safety leads to support management of site impact assessments and operating permits.
  • Support suitable training content and delivery, in line with global and regional requirements. Conduct gap assessments to identify site specific training needs.
  • Partner with key site or project leaders to integrate and operationalize environmental, health and safety programs and drive culture of safety, compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Understand and integrate company and legally required work processes, programmes and controls into site level operating procedures, tools and work instructions.
  • Support operational functions to monitor, analyse and adjust work practices for improved performance.
  • Ensure strong alignment of goals, metrics and targets with plant vision and targets.
  • Govern site performance targets together with plant and site leadership team.
  • Independently solve moderately complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Industry recognised qualifications such as NEBOSH
  • Proven relevant work experience
