Job Title: EHS Advisor

Health and safety advisor required to work in a large private sector organisation to support plant improvements and upgrades for chemical distillation and production at a medium size chemical processing plant.

The roles primary function is to augment the current EHS department and to ensure the ongoing compliance of a large project to support the Project team throughout the full range of disciplines within SHEF. The role also encompasses an approach to assisting and supporting all departments to assure compliance is maintained whilst running alongside daily production.

Responsibilities of the job include supporting and mentoring:
  • Training and presenting general/ technical EHS, wellbeing, behaviours, fire and environmental training.
  • The project safety file assuring documents including compliance their completion and monitoring and reporting.
  • Be responsible for support to the wider teams in relation to compliance and the management of actions open on safety cloud.
  • Own the outputs from safety systems are dealt with to assure completion in a relevant time period.
  • Assure contractors are trained and familiar with this system when time permits.
  • Assure accurate recording of EHS stats for internal and external reporting, joining the EHS committee and acting as the EHS/Project representative where required.
  • Build stronger personal working relationships to promote the adoption and integration of new EHS systems and to provide timely EHS support on issues.
  • Be responsible for communicating with the the wider teams as necessary in managing daily tasks and operational duties as they arise.
  • Determining ways of reducing risks through procedural and physical controls.
  • Maintaining internal health and safety and environmental operational and advise on safe operating strategies.
  • Writing reports, bulletins and newsletters as appropriate.
  • Making presentations and deliver training as necessary
  • Keeping up to date and ensuring compliance with current health and safety legislation

Skills

You will need to demonstrate evidence of the following:
  • A passion to get involved at the grass roots level and ensure EHS support is always available to drive improvement within the culture around the wider teams.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills to explain health and safety processes to a range of people and to give presentations to groups.
  • Negotiating skills to convince managers of the need to implement and maintain safety standards that may compromise speed or efficiency in the organisation.
  • Patience and diplomacy because the profession requires a collaborative approach.
  • The ability to understand and analyse complex information and present it simply and accurately.
  • An investigative mind.
  • IT skills and the ability to work within a quality process and attention to detail.
  • Producing procedures and material clearly and concisely, making sure it can be easily understood and followed.
  • Testing the written material with users.

Qualifications And Experience
  • As a minimum NEBOSH Certificate, Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Some experience in the chemical industry, EPR and COMAH.
  • Experience in CDM and being the EHS lead within a project environment.
  • Experience in writing safe operating procedures and procedures for safety and environmental.
  • Experience in process safety would be beneficial.
  • Experience in supporting and mentoring within a team.
