About The Role

Base Location: Flexible UK | We’re proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception. We will however need your base ’home’ location to be one of our SSE offices or depots around the UK

Salary: Group members are expected to provide up to 10 days input each year for which they will receive an annual payment of up to £5,000 and reasonable travel expenses.

Working Pattern: Fixed Term Contract | Part Time | We anticipate the Group will meet up to 5 times per annum.

This commitment is reflected in our RIIO-ED2 Business Plan which was co-created to meet the expectations and needs of energy consumers, customers, and stakeholders in the north of Scotland and central southern England.

In our DSO Acceleration Strategy and Action Plan, we identified our intention to create a Distribution System Operator (DSO) Advisory Board. The purpose of the Board is to provide independent, consumer focussed scrutiny and critical thinking in relation to the commitments we make in our Strategy. The DSO Advisory Board is required to provide the business with expert challenge, feedback and opinion on a range of DSO related areas, however it is not required to vote on or formalise decisions.

Alongside these items, the ask of the successful candidate is to:

  • Consider, and challenge, the effectiveness of our DSO delivery plans and operational decisions; the scale and reach of our flexibility activities; and the conclusions of our annual independent audit of the transparency of our operations.
  • Prepare fully for each scheduled meeting including considering papers and raising any issues in advance of the meeting with the DSO Advisory Board Secretariat and / or the Chair.
  • Actively participate in meetings through attendance in person, discussion, and review of minutes, conclusion of actions and other DSO Advisory Board Documents.
  • Support open discussion and debate and encourage fellow members to voice their insights and opinions.

To Be Considered For This Group, We Would Love You To Have a Clear Understanding Of The Regulatory Framework Within Which We Work, Alongside Demonstrable Strategic Or Leadership Experience In Any Of The Following Areas

  • Consumer advocacy, policy, and economic regulation.
  • Environmental sustainability and decarbonisation.
  • Local Authority policy, planning and decision making.
  • Data and Digital in the context of energy.
  • Smart systems design.
  • Community renewables.
  • Evaluation of customer value, efficiency, and societal benefits.
