Abingdon School have an exciting opportunity for a Drama & Theatre Assistant (Maternity Cover) to join their team. Location: Abingdon, Oxfordshire Salary: £21,361 - £23,478 per annum dependent on skills and experience Job Type: One-Year Fixed Term Contract (Maternity Cover) Drama & Theatre Assistant – The Role: An opportunity has arisen in the Drama department for a full-time Drama and Theatre Assistant for a one-year fixed term contract to cover a period of maternity leave.

This role offers scope for a wide-ranging artistic, creative, and administrative contribution to the dramatic life of the school. Drama & Theatre Assistant – Key Responsibilities:
  • Providing support for curricular drama teaching in lessons, and curriculum-based productions, as required
  • Providing administrative support for the Drama department’s extra-curricular activities, as required, including the Amey Theatre Technical Crew, all internal drama productions and the Abingdon Film Unit (AFU)
  • Assist in the running of the Amey Theatre Technical Crew
  • Providing general administrative support for all aspects of the Drama department’s activities
  • Assisting with all other aspects of productions and events, such as set design and construction, fit ups and get outs, constructing staging, technical set up
  • Management, administration, and operation of the Abingdon School box office for all school drama, music, and external events in the Amey Theatre, including setting up and advertising of online ticket sales for school shows and concerts; production, sale and distribution of tickets; reconciling box office receipts after school productions
  • Acting as Front of House Manager for both School and External events, to include briefing Fire Marshals, setting up and running a bar, cashing up
  • Providing duty managing and/or basic AV/technical support for some theatre events such as assemblies and lectures as cover for the Theatre Manager Drama & Theatre Assistant – You: Essential
  • Good general education
  • Strong knowledge, understanding and practical experience of drama, theatre and production processes
  • Excellent organisation skills
  • Ability to work well independently and with others
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Ability to work quickly, calmly and politely while under pressure, and to cope well with the demands of drama productions
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including an ability to build and maintain good rapport with staff, students and visiting companies and operate at all times in a professional manner
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills Desirable
  • A drama/theatre degree or similar vocational/professional qualification
  • Awareness and experience of professional theatre/industry practice
  • Visual/design flair and experience in areas such as costumes, props and publicity
  • A good level of IT / computer literacy, especially on Apple Macs
  • A personal license The role of the Drama & Theatre Assistant is a full time position with basic hours of 8.30am to 5.00pm but, as work into the evenings and at weekends will be required on an uneven but regular basis, and whenever productions/events demand, time off in lieu will be available to compensate.
