How you will make an impact?

This position will drive the acceleration of Cryo-Electron Microscopy in Biotech accounts, developing and implementing both long-term profitable growth for Biotech within the Life Sciences Business and short-term annual operating plan commitments. Apply the STRAP process to build strategic portfolio options for a 5-year horizon. Identify actual and future Biotech market requirements, evaluate and observe the competitive landscape and develop strategies to accelerate the penetration into the Biotech market and rapidly grow the customer base.

What will you do?

This position you are responsible for developing and delivering annual operating plan commitments and long-term profitable growth for the global Biotech segment, with an emphasis on small-to-midsize companies. Responsibilities include developing and implementing global and regional business strategies to continuously improve Thermo Fisher’s position in existing accounts and drive acquisition of new accounts. The employee will also identify, evaluate, and prioritize adjacent subsegments, developing and carrying out go-to-market strategies for each to expand the customer base.

You will be effective at operating within a highly matrixed organization, working with a global corporate accounts organization, regional sales and business development teams, and the business unit to accelerate growth and meet business targets.

Responsibilities:

Business Development Initiatives – develop and drive implementation of segment strategies in collaboration with commercial leadership. Support regional sales and business development teams in execution of critical initiatives. Align initiatives and priorities with the global corporate accounts organization and collaborate cross-divisionally. Develop strong, segment-specific value propositions that resonate with key buyer personas and support sales strategies needed to establish and maintain momentum of key initiatives.

Business Development Executables –Drive Biotech business performance (incl. bookings, margin, revenue and market position), identify issues and drive improvement actions. Develops and implements structured actions coving the full sales funnel. Provide input to the weekly and quarterly bookings forecast processes. Provide input to pricing, positioning, sales training content, S&OP volume planning, non – standard request justification, and be the “voice of the field” in new product introduction. Represent the BU in high level commercial meetings, internally and externally.

Innovation Initiatives – Support Product Marketing Directors, to provide the field perspective for (new) products and workflows, competitive trends and implement regional marketing plans

Partner with key colleagues, lead cross-functional, global teams, work closely with the business unit, sales operations, and Sales and service teams to deliver outstanding customer value while achieving the financial objectives of the business.

Continuous Improvement: monitor and continuously improve efficiency and effectiveness of strategy execution by implementing powerful business processes (PPI)

How will you get here?

Education?
  • Master’s or Doctorate in Life Sciences preferred. A strong background in Structural Biology, protein science or Biochemistry is required. Exceptional candidates with a bachelor’s degree and strong professional experience will be considered.

Experience, knowledge, skills, abilities:
  • 7+ years of Business Development and/or Sales Experience. Experience with capital equipment sales highly required.
  • Extensive, global network in Biotech, especially in Drug Discovery and/or Biologics. Knowledge of Life Science Venture Capital strategies a plus.
  • Strong people management skills, you know how to build a high performing team.
  • Willingness to travel up to 60%, both domestic and internationally, as the need arises.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with key business partners and customers to impact growth
  • Excellent at business development and sales strategy (Miller Heiman), planning and execution with an emphasis on measurable success.
  • Highly developed commercial sensibility: ability to recognize growth opportunities and execute on them. Demonstrated ability to drive strategy into action required.
  • Highly effective leadership, adept at team building and experienced in change management
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Experience and demonstrated proficiency both leading and prioritizing multiple projects and initiatives
  • Experience in interacting with highly technical customers and customer groups
