In this role, you will lead technical advisory and implementation proposals for ABB’s digital software solutions for Energy Industry companies. Working within a Hub structure, you will contribute to a wide range of projects tailored to the specific requirements of the target markets.

The Digital Solution Architect will craft a customer’s technical solution (i.e. data systems integration, cloud/on premise data solutions, software and applications), knit together ABB and third-party solutions into a recognisable value proposition for our customers. Digitalise and enhance our current consulting and software solutions to generate sustainable volume. Examples of ABB EN focus areas – Asset Performance Management, Energy Management software, Analytics and AI Suite and Cyber Security (software).

The role will establish a trusted relationship with both our external customers and internal technical teams; they will need to understand customer needs and translate it into technical architecture based on ABB Ability (Digital) technical components. They will work with Product teams, Business Area and global Division, Services and Sales teams to help drive Digital related sales and ensure a solid technical solution on related projects.

The successful candidate will have detailed understanding of IOT components for the OT environment from the sensor to plant to enterprise and cloud. Functions may include testing and validation, SQL querying, data modelling including the use of machine learning and AI technology, analysis and reporting software. Business acumen is critical to the role; translating business drivers, customer requirements and a technical solution into a core value proposition for ABB’s customers.

The business is pivoting towards new areas of opportunity, the role will be key to defining the operations capability for Digital solutions in the UK business. As such the candidate must be capable working with resources of varying levels of digital acumen across internal teams and will work with operations managers on competency mapping and a skills plan to develop high performing teams.

Your responsibilities
  • Main responsibilities will be to carry out the following functions :
  • Design appropriate systems and software architectures for energy companies to enable use of data to improve efficiency and enable remote support/operations
  • Work with the sales and suppliers to produce cost estimates and best value solutions for customers
  • Provide support to the sales teams for customer meetings and ABB technology demonstrations.
  • Design and propose secure interfaces between plant operating systems and performance improvement software applications (condition monitoring, energy monitoring, smart worker systems, process performance indicators)
  • Design on premise and in-cloud systems including but not limited to plant and equipment reliability modelling, process and energy optimization, visualisation of data from multiple plant systems.
  • Contribute to new product (software) development such as machine learning and AI technologies in key markets
  • Work with global system architecture team to migrate local applications to a cloud-based environment
  • Analyse technical details of contracts and basic engineering requirements
  • Customizing data communication interfaces to ERP systems and other systems
  • Produce technical advisory consultancy for customers that may include, technology scouting reports, business case development (with customer input), digital maturity studies and POC / Pilot scoping.
  • Implementation proposals for customized digital solutions including KPI Dashboards, multi system integration, workflow management, OT-IT convergence, mobile workforce (smart worker) systems
  • Contribute to in-house and on-site training of customer engineers
