We are delighted to be recruiting for a Development Technician / Chemist to work for a large automotive manufacturing company in the Aberdare area.

This is a full time, permanent position with a salary of approximately £30,000 depending on experience.

Reporting to the Technical Manager you will be responsible for product development, formulation, production and testing of laboratory samples. Further responsibilities include ensuring the laboratory conforms to regulatory standards such as REACH, ISO 9001 & ISO 14001.

Responsibilities

Regulatory compliance in line with REACH legislation.
  • Solving problems with existing products.
  • Attending technical meetings at customers.
  • Attending customer application trials.
  • Support activities at customer’s plants - intermittent customer visits on a technical basis.
  • Liaison with sales personnel.
  • Preparation of laboratory samples.
  • Testing to customer specifications.
  • Preparation of laboratory test reports.
  • Process involvement projects.
  • Reformulation of existing products to meet customer demands.
  • Project maintenance according to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 & TS 16949.
  • Contact with new raw material suppliers.
  • Participation within the structure of the Development and Customer Support Team.
  • Compliance with the company health and safety policy within the Laboratory.
  • Maintenance of good house-keeping within the department.
Requirements

Educated to Degree level (or equivalent) in Polymer Chemistry or related discipline.
  • Chemical industry knowledge of processes and procedures.
  • Experience in the Implementation and Development of ISO 14001 in a Chemical Manufacturing setting.
  • Knowledge of EU regulations with respect to Chemical Manufacturing e.g. REACH.
  • Formulating surface coating products.
  • Knowledge of surface coating test methods.
  • Spray application techniques.
  • Experience with standard Microsoft packages.
