About This Role

The RAN network has grown increasingly complex over recent years. We now have 4 technology layers, 8 possible carriers, with more due this year. This is all split over three main macro vendors each of which can be installed in hundreds on combinations. The role holder will be responsible to ensure the designs from the main design teams are clear and contain sufficient details for the planning and deliver teams to be able to plan and build sites. The role will define and optimise the processes used in the planning and nominating the upgrades. Will work with supply chain to ensure appropriate hardware has been ordered and will manage product lifecycles in the network, such as ensuring plans are in place before parts reach EOS.

You’ll Have The Following Responsibilities
  • Creates and implements technical solutions for a domain or cross domains / portfolios of work within a specific technology area autonomously, understanding how solutions impact systems internally and/or externally and assessing impact of change.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve standards of practice within a project, continuously enhancing ways of working.
  • Provides sound technical expertise to consult on significant component(s) of a technical solution within a specific domain or cross domain.
  • Delivers resolutions to problems that tend to be complex, cross-domain or of high impact to customers.
  • Hosting broadcast calls to share updates to design guidance with end users.
  • Driving activities from trial into business as usual use.
  • Initial point of contact for all business as usual discussions with supply chain and delivery managers.
  • Reporting on network hardware and software, flagging end of support on hardware or software with sufficient time for budgets and upgrades to be performed.
  • Final approval of any design documents to be published.
  • Lead in sharing documentation updates into planning, delivery and other partners.
  • Interface into tools teams to ensure requirements are aligned.
You’ll Have The Following Skills & Experience
  • Extensive experience in mobile telecommunications industry in the role of a lead designer with business-critical, high-availability / high-throughput systems and networks.
  • Experience of managing relationships with suppliers and third-parties, of product/feature selection and of delivering those products into a production environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of GSM, UMTS and LTE systems, architectures (RAN and Core) and the processes to manage customer experience.
  • Strong understanding of constraints in a mobile network when proving coverage solutions and supporting demand through capacity.
  • Knowledge of industry best practice methodologies for analysing, defining and documenting the link between input business requirements and output technical solutions.
  • Must have good communication skills with the ability to broker agreement across teams.
  • Experience of managing relationships with internal business customers, and of understanding and planning for the delivery of agreed solutions to meet mutual business needs.
  • Experience of managing or working with business systems/applications which support processes similar to those managed by the team.
  • Maintain high level of domain expertise, keeping abreast of the developments within the telecoms market, to ensure continued delivery to time, cost and quality in the face of both internal and external change.
  • Develop and maintain a level of technical expertise, knowledge of current best practice and industry trends so as to act as a domain expert.
  • 5+ years’ experience in Mobile Radio Access Network Design or delivery.
  • Substantial evidence of delivering and developing market-leading solutions as required by the business.
  • Track record of on-time, on-budget and to-specification delivery based on internal policies and procedures, with the ability to manage the end-to-end delivery of solutions.
