About This Role

You will be a part of the Public Cloud Engineering team. The team are the custodians of BT’s public cloud service offering and spearhead the deployment of public cloud services within BT.

The team is responsible for developing, deploying, and supporting the Cloud Infrastructure - a set of standardised services, security controls, and Cloud adoption patterns. The team build Cloud “product lines” to meet the features of application tenants. The team provides consultation services supporting and advancing Cloud services’ adoption of solutions supporting our customer-facing units.

Cost and operational effectiveness to support the adoption of new technologies is key to accelerating the business and technological benefits of the Cloud. As the model for cloud consumption is different to traditional IT, paying as we go in most cases. We need to explain the value proposition of such a model to all our stakeholders, ensure there is minimal to no wastage and keep optimising our usage to maximise value for BT.

You’ll Have The Following Responsibilities

To succeed you will be able to easily shift between macro and micro lenses while delivering strategic and tactical activities. You should have a natural analytical way of thinking, diving deep into a problem, product and process and be able to explain difficult concepts to both tech and non-tech users.

Additionally you will have a proven ability to learn quickly, distil complex scenarios into easily understandable synopses and communicate clearly in both written and verbal form.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Will manage a team of operational specialists and will drive new ways of working including devolved responsibilities but also centralized cloud service management (co-creation with users, persona creation, journey mapping)
  • Will lead squad(s) to operate our cloud platforms 24x7 which covers operational support, change management and the teams will be responsible for 1st line, 2nd line operations including on call management to support services outside of normal business hours
  • In-life operation of Cloud Platforms that is focused on high levels of quality services across all our IT consumption of public cloud
  • Will lead the definition of OKRs for their squads working across the tribe and into value streams under simplify.
  • Will manage the Operating model for on call and support structures to support the public cloud functions.
  • Will manage a team that will build integrations between the public cloud platform providers and our strategic monitoring toolsets – for example Autofix, Service Now or other tools being provided through Mobius (e.g Slack, Teams).
  • Will manage supplier/partner resources to operate the shared services offered by public cloud
  • Will manage a schedule of activities –scheduled pen testing and its analysis, operating any fixed static workload
  • Will manage quarterly reviews such as a schedule of well architected review with application teams and the Cloud Vendor and the teams consuming cloud
  • Ability to conduct time and motion study and use statistical and operation management techniques to improve business process flows using the right tools
  • Manage critical relationships with internal and external technology partners (AWS / Google / Azure) and their impacts across BT’s Cloud portfolio to key business and technology stakeholders
  • Create and develop regular communication mechanisms
You’ll Have The Following Skills & Experience
  • Project and or portfolio management
  • Proven capability of working with and presenting to senior executives
  • Excellent communication skills, often being able to compromise but draw out risks and constraints associated with solutions but also communicate with a wide audience of stakeholders up to ‘B’ level
  • Have experience working as a part of a team using agile methodologies
  • Knowledge of business models, business lines, products and service delivery within BT
  • Ability to effectively articulate matters with low degree of complexity through both verbal and written media
  • Ability to manage time effectively
  • Exhibits sound business judgment, a proven ability to influence others, strong analytical skills, and a proven track record of taking ownership, leading data driven analyses, and influencing results
  • You should also hold or be preparing for any Cloud certification
  • Demonstrable experience guiding Engineer and Product or Operations teams.
  • Superb communication and customer-relationship skills, outstanding analytic insight, and be a passionate advocate for Cloud to internal parties with the ability to identify risks and constraints.
  • 3+ years of experience working cross functionally with tech and non-tech teams.
  • 3+ years of business development and IT management or IT Finance experience.
  • 2+ years of experience management consulting, IT transformation consulting, product management, program management and/or business process design experience
  • 2+ Years of experience working with cost management.
  • Experienced at working with large data sets, with a familiarity of IT transformation within large organizations and working directly within the executive suite.
  • Experience of financial management and delivery of improved financial performance.
  • Strategic capability and commercial awareness.
  • Collaborative approach to problem solving.
  • A track record of delivering process simplification and improvement.
  • Hands on experience managing AWS/GCP/Azure Cost Functionalities highly desired.
