What we need

Our suite of monthly, bi-monthly and quarterly magazines is read by more than 150,000 people every month and helps to ensure our readers are kept informed and up-to-date on the current and future direction of the British farming industry.


You will be responsible for the line management of two writers, inspiring and motivating them and developing them professionally. You will work with the Editor to plan, commission, write and sub edit articles for our monthly flagship title, British Farmer & Grower magazine. As well as this, you will get the opportunity to take the lead on the editorial content of at least one of our smaller publications in the horticulture, poultry or young farmer categories. For this reason, experience with a CMS and software such as Adobe InDesign is a big advantage. With digital firmly at the heart of our communications strategy, the right candidate will also be experienced in turning copy around for multiple channels including social media and online.


In order to be considered for this role, you must have:


  • Significant experience of writing, publishing and sub editing for a magazine or newspaper. Preferably, you will have an NCTJ qualification or an equivalent
  • Demonstrable experience of leading, inspiring and managing a small team
  • A good level of InDesign ability, preferably with experience of Photoshop
  • Experience of web publishing including CMS and social media
  • Demonstrable experience of project management, horizon scanning and forward planning
  • Drive, enthusiasm and ambition to succeed
  • A positive can-do attitude that enables you to overcome challenges and help your team develop


A combination of Office based/Hybrid working will be considered for this role.
