JOB OVERVIEW

As the Deputy Centre Director (Student Experience), you will be responsible for overseeing a team of three Heads of Functions: Head of Student Support, Head of Registry & Operations, and Head of Progression Support. Together, you will strive to ensure that our students receive a great experience both within and outside of the center. As a senior leader, you will set high expectations for students and staff, and provide guidance to enable them to achieve the best possible outcomes. You will ensure compliance with UKVI regulations and other quality assurance processes as required by Study Group, our university partner, and regulatory bodies. In addition, you will act as the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead.

The ideal candidate for this role will have experience in strategic leadership within a complex, multidisciplinary environment, with a proven track record of success. A strong understanding of UK higher education and experience in managing staff in international and/or UK further and higher education contexts is essential. You will be able to articulate a clear vision for continuous improvement and work collaboratively to achieve our goals for student outcomes. You will also have excellent interpersonal skills to foster strong working relationships with our university partner and across the Study Group network.

ABOUT THE ROLE

  • Provide powerful and inspirational leadership across the centre
  • Articulate and implement a clear vision to drive forward continuous improvement and enable the Centre to achieve the aspirational targets for student outcomes
  • Articulate and implement a clear vision for the development of the student experience partnership with Durham University, including appropriate progression routes that maximise opportunities for recruitment to the college
  • Lead and motivate staff to contribute to ensuring the best possible student outcomes, progression and student experience.
  • To provide ongoing training for student experience staff in collaboration with the Head of Quality Assurance & Enhancement
  • Act as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) for the ISC, helping to ensure that safeguarding is embedded into centre operations.
  • Oversee Student Services activities and ensure that all students receive a smooth, legally compliant and efficient entry into the ISC.
  • Oversee new student pre-arrival, induction, out-duction and transition activities including arrivals arrangements and documentation
  • Ensure that the Centre is compliant in relation to its safeguarding responsibilities, and all staff across the Centre are aware of their obligations and to who to report concerns.
  • Accountable for ensuring that the Centre is compliant with UKVI regulations and maintains good relations with the central Visa team to be aware of any new and upcoming changes in visa regulations.
  • To act as the nominated Health and Safety Representative for the Centre ensuring that all Health and Safety policies and procedures are adhered to.

ABOUT YOU

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (Essential)
  • Formal leadership and management training (Desirable)
  • Leadership and management experience in a teaching and learning environment (Essential)
  • Welfare, safeguarding or DSL experience (Essential)
  • Experience in working proactively to develop, build and maintain the Student Experience (Essential)
  • Experience in leading large teams in the support of staff and students (Essential)
  • Experience in providing academic and/or pastoral support to international students (Desirable)
  • Experience in partnership working or partnership management in the education sector (Desirable)
